UPDATED: New World Delays First Server Merges Due to Amazon Outages, Announces Next Round

While the New World team announced this week that the game's first server merges would take place today, yesterday Amazon experienced a severe outage that affected the entire system of platforms and sites powered by Amazon's technology. As a result, the first server merge has been delayed until tomorrow. The team also announced the next round of planned server merges.

Yesterday's extensive outage prevented many players from accessing the game. While the initial plan was to have the first serve merge today at 10 AM Eastern/3 PM UTC they initially delayed that process by hours before the outage issues extended throughout the Amazon system, lasting most of the day. Well Amazon's server issues have been addressed, but the team decided that the degree to which the entire system was affected would warrant changing the first merge planned to tomorrow.

Along with the plans to delay the first merges, Amazon announced the next round of server merges, with these changes being a little more extensive than the first round. The server merges are scheduled for December 10th and will affect the Central EU and South American regions. In Central Europe, six servers will be merged into the Caer Sidi server.  South America will see four servers merge into a fifth server, Irkalla.

Since we are seeing a number of servers plan to merge into a single new server, this is where the policy laid out on ownership begins to make more sense. The server that everyone will be merging into will not see any changes in ownership over territory, but every server that is merging into the new one will not retain any ownership. It might be frustrating at first, but the server merges should hopefully address some of the population and access issues.

For the full new server merge info, see this update over at New World.

UPDATE: Amazon has decided to hold downtime tonight and move these merges to Friday. More details here.
