French developer Arkane Studios has really shown their creative chops over the last few years, with numerous releases that have gone on to receive high praise. With this year's Deathloop being given high scores by critics, and the upcoming release of Redfall in summer 2022, not to mention the likes of the Dishonored games, and the Prey reboot, the studio has been rather busy this last decade. Yet that doesn't appear to be slowing things down, as a recent job listing suggests the next project could be yet another first-person shooter.

Even as Arkane Studios works on Redfall, the developer is still keen to hire new talent, with a position opening up for an environment artist. While it doesn't specify what the candidate will be working on, other than "making AAA titles," it does ask that potential applicants have a passion for, in particular, first-person shooters. It's unlikely to be a position for Redfall, as that's been in the make for a number of years now and is likely in the late stages of development. This leaves the possibility of it being a brand-new IP, but what that could be is anyone's guess at this stage.

One other possibility is that it may be related to some potential Deathloop DLC. At the time of writing, there doesn't seem to be any official word about whether the time-loop game will be getting any extra content, but given that Arkane Studios is more than accustomed to making DLC for its titles, it's well within the realm of possibility that whoever is hired as an environment artist could be set to work on something along those lines.

deathloop state of play

While Arkane Studios has been criticized for lack of accessibility options in its games, specifically Deathloop, not to mention the PC stuttering issues at the start, it doesn't seem to have hurt the developer's reputation too much. Given that a hotfix was sent out to fix frame rate issues, it shows that the studio is more than capable of making amends.

With Deathloop being a must-play game for the PS5, Arkane's star is only rising, so the pressure is on for the team to keep creating quality titles. Unfortunately, not much can really be gleamed from the job posting. At this stage, it can only be speculated as to what the role will involve working on, but with the developer being as popular as it is, and its reputation for making great games, there's every chance that a new FPS from the studio will be an exciting prospect for any fan.

Redfall is being developed by Arkane Studios and releases in summer 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
