The hype surrounding New World was huge when it released earlier this year. Despite posting impressive concurrent player counts on Steam, the game suffered from post-launch bugs and exploits, such as the infamous gold dupe glitch. Recently, it seems that the high-profile streamer Shroud has stumbled upon another one.

As one of the top gamers on Twitch, Shroud often checks out the latest video games. So when New World was released a few months ago, unsurprisingly, he played it. While he has had his complaints about the MMORPG developed Amazon Game Studios, he continues to come back to the game. While playing the title recently, he uncovered a new exploit involving the Musket, one of the weapons found in New World.

During a live stream on November 19, Shroud was unsurprisingly playing New World. What was surprising was a discovery he made about the Musket. After experimenting with the weapon, he uncovered some unexpected results. It seems that following Patch 1.1 for the game, players can now use the gun in unintended and overpowered ways.

After one of his Twitch viewers asked why the Musket in New World was so powerful, Shroud explained his reasoning. He said that the weapon can be Empowered, allowing players to use powerful shots that inflict more damage and stagger enemies. According to Shroud, the problem was that every type of Empowered shot was available to be used repeatedly with no cooldown. This meant that players could spam different abilities, such as the Powder Shot and Powder Burn, without regard for strategy. In addition, by utilizing this new exploit, players could use the Empowered ability to stagger opponents over and over again.

These abilities for the Musket are fine in moderation, as they encourage tactical decision-making during in-game battles. However, without the proper cooldowns in effect, the combat devolves into mindless spamming of abilities. Shroud even tested the exploit against a friend, and he was shocked by the results, as the Powder Burn ability had no cooldown. In addition, he was concerned about the state of the MMORPG. He claimed that the gun was currently “broken.” He added, “Musket is really insane.”

While a change to address this exploit will likely come soon, a date for a fix for the Musket has not been given by the developers at Amazon Game Studios. In addition, the overpowered weapon is still useable in the game, meaning that players can take advantage of it until a patch is implemented.

New World is available now on PC.
