It seems like Among Us developer Innersloth is working double-time to make sure it retains and grows its current player base. With recent announcements that the title is releasing on console platforms, plus shipping out three Among Us collector's editions, the team has shared updates that a new Imposter feature is making its way into the game. Now, players have more incentive to play as the villain with the new Shapeshifter feature, where Imposters can now transform into any living Crewmate on the mission.

There is no doubt that Among Us has an influence over the gaming community. The simple yet possibly devastating gameplay keeps its players entertained. Some content creators have made their entire career out of streaming the title, and even well-known video game developers have taken notice, with SSBU's Masahiro Sakurai jokingly tweeting about Among Us. This shows that even the simplest of games can sell, as long as the unique twist is there. With the new Shapeshifter trick being introduced, Among Us fans are likely expecting a second wind of popularity, with more logging in again to experience the feature themselves.

On the official Among Us Twitter account, the devs simply dropped the news about the Shapeshifter role. The tweet briefly explained that the Shapeshifter can morph into any living Crewmate for a short period of time. On the game's website, more details and information about the role are shared. The Shapeshifter seems to be an Imposter skill that can randomly be assigned during a game. This skill gives the Imposter access to a menu that lets them transform into any currently living Crewmate. However, shapeshifting will only last for a limited time, and will leave traces of the transformation as evidence. For players with sharp senses, this may be the best clue to determine if a Shapeshifter is among the Crewmates.

The probability of Imposters having the Shapeshifter skill, longevity of the transformation, as well as leaving physical evidence behind are all Among Us customizable options and features that players can tweak during the start of every game. With these options, it is even possible for two Imposters to both have the Shapeshifter skill, which will likely lead to a lot of fun and chaos within a single mission.

Unfortunately, Among Us devs have not given any solid details on when the new Shapeshifter role will be implemented in the game. According to the official post, the team is working on an update event, so fans and players should stay tuned on social media channels for any announcements.

Among Us is currently available for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A PlayStation and Xbox release is slated for December 14, 2021.
