Ever since its launch around a month ago, New World has been enjoying quite a bit of success in terms of numbers of concurrent players, despite a few issues that have yet to be dealt with. This is also Amazon Game Studios' first MMO, and as such, it was conceived to allow players to do whatever they please with the game and still get around making currency and getting gear. This was not always the case, however, as in the early phase of development New World was more inclined to be a PvP-oriented game where PvE and other activities were rather minimal.

When the tides turned, New World immediately became much more appealing to those players who prefer experiencing group activities against the environment or even crafters and gatherers. A player even decided to reach level 60 in New World without ever killing anything, while another achieved the same level without joining one of the game's three factions. This is a testament to how much freedom New World players can enjoy in the game, and that's what more MMOs should try to accomplish.

This is precisely what a New World server achieved, with tons of players uniting in Windsward to try their luck and possibly become very rich - or poor. This is done by placing bets with fellow players and then, when they agree to the wager, both use the Dice emote to find out the winner by sheer luck. Of course, players who lose can always refuse to pay the winner, but that's something that will not be tolerated by the gamblers, and the cheater will end up on a black list.

This is all described in detail in a post by a Reddit user by the name of Soracaz, who then explains how higher bets work. In fact, players willing to bet more than 1.000 Gold at a time will have to initiate a trade and put said amount in the Gold section, proving that they can pay if they lose. Then, things proceed as normal, with the Dice emote and the highest result proclaiming the winner.

The method might not be the healthiest when it comes to how addicted some players may become, but it is a fun alternative to spending or making Gold. The game's economy is not perfect, after all, as the recent debate about players wanting a fix to Azoth cap and travel costs shows, but it's likely that changes will be made in the future.

New World is available now on PC.
