The procedurally generated worlds of Minecraft contain many mobs. In addition to adding life to the sometimes lonely atmosphere of the survival game, these mobs often provide useful items for players. While some of these mobs, such as Creepers and Skeletons, are hostile, others are usually non-combative. One of these peaceful mobs that have multiple uses is rabbits.
Introduced in the 1.8 update, rabbits are found throughout the game world. One of a number of passive mobs in Minecraft, players can gather several resources from bunnies such as rabbit hide, raw rabbit, and rabbit’s foot. Recently, one player tried rather unsuccessfully to care for rabbits in the game.
In a post on Reddit, a user known as regalfuzz shared a video of an unfortunate event that happened to them in Minecraft. The clip started with the player inside a corral they had made to keep a group of bunnies. The pen interior was quaint, containing a small tree, flower, and even a tiny body of water. Everything was peaceful as the player fed their rabbits carrots. Unfortunately, things didn’t stay pleasant for very long.
As regalfuzz worked, a thunderstorm was passing through the area. While the weather didn’t appear to be an issue, things took a turn for the worst after they prepared to leave the corral. Just as the player had closed the gate behind him, it happened. Suddenly, a large bolt of lightning struck the enclosure where regalfuzz had stood a few seconds ago.
While the player managed to survive the harrowing encounter, the same could not be said of the rabbits. All but one of the bunnies had been killed by the lightning, leaving behind a collection of rabbit meat. The only survivor was one rabbit that had managed to escape the pen as regalfuzz was exiting.
This clip involving the untimely death of regalfuzz's rabbits has gained popularity within the Minecraft community on Reddit. With an impressive 36,400 upvotes in less than a day, many could not believe how unlucky the player was. Some users tried to see the bright side of the disaster by commenting that at least one rabbit had survived. In addition, some were confused, including regalfuzz, as to why only part of the rabbit meat was cooked while the other part remained raw.
This bunny apocalypse caused by a lightning strike is just another example of the unpredictable nature of the open world of Minecraft. While sometimes unexpected and unfortunate events happen to players like regalfuzz, this unpredictability is what keeps the game exciting for many players. It will be interesting to see what other unusual events players encounter in Minecraft moving forward.
