343 Industries has offered a minor stay of execution for the online services for the Halo games on the Xbox 360.

Late last year, the studio announced it would be shutting down the online services for several older Halo titles in December. However, it seems the Halo Waypoint blog post has recently been given an update. (Spotted by Video Games Chronicle.) While it’s only a short reprieve, the legacy services will now be shut down on January 13, 2022.

The games effected are Halo Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Spartan Assault, Halo Wars, Halo Reach and Halo 4. You’ll still be able to play Campaign, Firefight, Splitscreen and more as normal. Matchmaking and most online functionality will be disabled in most of the titles, however. A handy graphic offers up the specifics, which you can see at the bottom of this post. The versions of the games found in Halo: The Master Chief Collection are not affected. If you have any other questions, you can check out the FAQ over here.

The reason for the Halo on Xbox 360 services’ closure is to allow 343 to shift their resources to Halo Infinite. The new entry launches on December 8 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC and we got a fresh look at the campaign earlier today.
