Destiny 2 developer Bungie is acting fast to prevent players from using an extremely game-breaking glitch by handing out Rutabaga errors and bans to follow. The developer has reportedly known about the glitch for a while now and has been working on a fix, but the publication of a tutorial video has forced the Bungie to deploy this preventative measure.

While the glitch itself has been known among certain circles for a while, it only recently started to gain more widespread attention when a few well-known glitchers shared teaser videos. JB3 was the first video that Game Rant saw and it featured a Titan activating their Ward of Dawn super and creating an absurd number of Orbs of Power.

Alongside the video, JB3 explained that this glitch, dubbed the "Min/Max Glitch," works with different Destiny supers and also creates 7 Orbs of Power on any Super kill. In Crucible this could cause major problems, as it would allow players to have seemingly unlimited Supers, as long as they filled their Super bar first. As a result, many started to try to figure out how to reproduce the glitch, but this weekend JB3 revealed exactly how to do it.

On top of that, JB3 revealed that the glitch can also be used to extend any timer in the game as a sort of built-in “netlimiter.” So players in the Vault of Glass Destiny 2 raid could unlock an unlimited Atheon damage phase, for example. What initially was seen as a cheat in PvP had now become a problem across the game.

What is a Rutabaga Error in Destiny

Apparently, this Destiny 2 glitch was brought to Bungie’s attention a few months back and the studio has been working on a way to hot fix it out. Unfortunately, there is no solution at this time, but once the tutorial was published, Bungie was able to launch a slight band-aid that hits any players who use the glitch with an error code: RUTABAGA. On top of this, there have been reports on forums, social media, and the Destiny subreddit that those players are then either suspended or outright banned from the game following the Rutabaga error.

It’s for this reason that it is not worth attempting to duplicate the glitch, as no one wants to lose access to the game. Moreover, the glitch is not one that merely exploits the combination of some powerful Destiny 2 mods, like a multi-orb Telesto glitch that appeared earlier in the season.

Bungie isn’t always as lucky when it comes to game-breaking glitches like this, but in this case, the developer was prepared enough with a solution. If it had gone unchecked, this could have hurt the legitimacy of Trials of Osiris matches, Gambit games, and more.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
