Up until now, players have had limited knowledge on the scale of Gotham Knights and the variety of enemies they will be fighting once the game launches. However, a new teaser confirms that Gotham Knights will bring plenty of different adversaries for the Bat Family, as five villain factions are confirmed to feature.

While this information is exciting, it is important to remember that the Court of Owls will undoubtedly be the biggest faction that players face off against. The entire focus of Gotham Knights’ story trailer, the cult-like group controls Gotham behind the scenes. As such, they likely have ties to the other villainous groups, even if those same factions have no idea that the Court of Owls exist. Even when the heroes face off against these other groups, they will likely be unraveling details about the Court and working towards their eventual defeat.

The teaser of the new factions was spotted by Reddit user AdLazy3750 and Twitter user @Jsig212James, and it comes from the game’s official website. In the Gotham City section, players can see the same image that was Tweeted out. There are five sections at the top that each seemingly focus on a different villain, with all but The Court of Owls’ section locked. The Court is also in the center of the five hexagons, likely to symbolize its control over the city and its role in the overall narrative of the game.

With the four other factions being locked, who features in each is anyone’s guess. Penguin is treated as an ally in Gotham Knights’ DC Fandome trailer, so his gang will likely not be getting in the way of the Bat Family. One solid option is tied to Mr. Freeze, as the villain was shown back when the game was first revealed. While he usually works alone, there is a chance that some ice-wielding enemies follow his lead, giving players some regular foes to face off against that use some of Freeze’s attacks.

Twitter user @LegionOfArkham made some great guesses, with Anarky’s faction, the League of Assassins, and the Order of St. Dumas suggested by the gamer. If fans think back to 2020 when Gotham Knights was first being teased, these are some of the faction symbols that were stumbled upon in the teaser, indicating that they will likely appear in some form. Hints suggesting that Two-Face would have a role were also found, so his gang could make up the fourth unknown faction instead of the “general criminals” option @LegionOfArkham mentioned.

For now, fans will need to keep waiting for more info on Gotham Knights. While the factions remain mysterious, this extra bit of confirmation that players will fight enemy types beyond the Court and its Talons is truly exciting.

Gotham Knights releases in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
