343 Industries has offered up another update on Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer, this time focusing on the competitive and ranked side.

In the video, host Andy ‘Bravo’ Dudysnky chats with lead multiplayer designer Andrew Witts and former Halo pro Sal ‘El Town’ Monhanan. They chat about some of the tweaks and specific settings that will be available to competitive and pro players. To that end, the development side worked with the Competitive Insights team to tweak maps for the best competitive experience.

Some of this included placing specific, curated spawns on maps in optimum locations for fair, balanced play. This also led to a group of baseline settings: BR75 starting weapon, motion trackers disabled , grenade hitmarkers off and Friendly Fire active. These will be available across all the game modes in official play, across Slayer, Capture the Flag, Strongholds and Oddball.

There’s also been tweaks to certain scoring mechanics for competitive play. One of these is that in Strongholds mode, returning from Halo 5. Previously, teams would begin scoring once they capture two zones. However, now if the opposing team makes any progress towards taking a zone back, you’ll stop scoring points. This should help prevent anti-climatic finishes to matches, where exciting comebacks were nulled by the defenders waiting out the clock.

There’s plenty of other improvements for Halo Infinite multiplayer’s official and ranked play mentioned in the video, so we’ll let you check it out for yourself below. Halo Infinite is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on December 8.
