An Early Access trial for FIFA 22 goes live today, giving EA Play subscribers ten hours of hands-on time with the game ahead of its launch next week.

If you’ve not been following, this year’s biggest addition is the new ‘HyperMotion’ technology. It’s a set of new animation tech that EA says results in the most “realistic, fluid and responsive football experience” yet. An entire compliment of 22 players were motion captured, with the resultant 8.7 million frames(!) of data being fed into the system. This is then blended with new animations written by machine learning algorithms to fill in any gaps.

Elsewhere there’s rewrites to the goalkeeper system and a “new level of intelligence” for those defending the net. Ultimate Team has a raft of new features and overhauls to its progression. And finally Volta Football makes its return, complete with new Signature Abilities mechanic, party games and more.

The FIFA 22 Early Access trial lands today for EA Play subscribers on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Any progress you make will carry over to the full game too. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can also get on board, as an EA Play membership is included in their subscription.
