Clockwork Labs, a new fully remote independent game development studio by MMO veterans, has announced it has raised $4.3 million to create a new community sandbox MMORPG.

Clockwork Labs is led by Tyler Cloutier and Alessandro Asoni who have worked on large-scale MMOs like Game of War and Mobile Strike. This new unannounced sandbox community sandbox MMORPG is venture-backed by Supercell, Firstminute Capital, 1Up Ventures, Supernode, and Skycatcher.

In the accompanying press release, Tyler Cloutier, co-founder of Clockwork Labs, noted,

“We started Clockwork Labs to create the kind of ambitious MMORPG project we’ve wanted to play for years, but which required our new proprietary tech. Our debut project will feature a truly unique level of social interaction and cooperation between players, which is at the core of what our studio values in gaming.”

In fact, this project has caught the eye of EVE Online’s CCP President, Hilmar Pétursson, who is an angel investor in Clockwork Labs. Alessandro Asoni, co-founder of Clockwork Labs, spoke about the design and creation aspect driving Clockworks Labs,

“At Clockwork Labs, we want to create virtual worlds which have true meaning to the players that inhabit them. It is important to us in the way we design games to give the power of creation and owning content back to the players. We’re excited to see what this level of freedom and inspiration leads to when we invite the world to experience our debut project.”

As the team is growing, they’re looking for talent to join their company. If you think you have what it takes, check out their page here. You can learn more information about Clockwork Labs here.
