Bethesda details how the Fallout 76 battle royale mode is leaving soon

If you played it, you’ll get at least one reward

A Fallout 76 battle royale? Sure! I mean Fallout 76 threw a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks, and apparently this fell to the floor.

As Bethesda announced a few months back, Nuclear Winter, the aforementioned Fallout 76 battle royale mode, is going bye bye very soon in September. It’s part of a mass exodus of sorts from the battle royale craze, as tons of companies try and compete with each other will full-on battle royale games, or modes within existing titles (like this one!). It’s just too much market saturation, so we’ve seen some pullback from the subgenre in recent years: removing a Fallout 76 battle royale mode to focus on other facets of the experience makes a lot of sense.

As an update, Bethesda is walking us through that entire process in a new blog. The exact date of Nuclear Winter’s removal is September 8, which is the same day that the Fallout Worlds content patch arrives. If you played even one Nuclear Winter match by then you’ll get a Nuclear Winter pennant, which you can display in your C.A.M.P.s, as well as perk coins depending on how much you were into the mode.

There is one silver lining though with this mode exodus: you can still explore Vault 51 freely, thanks to fan-demand. The studio is “cracking open the vault door so you can poke around as you please.”

The team also provides us with a parting message for Nuclear Winter fans:

“Shutting down Nuclear Winter was an incredibly difficult decision for us as a team, and we’d like to extend a hearty thank you to everyone who participated in the mode—whether you joined just one match, or one thousand. We hope that the rewards mentioned above will aid you in your adventures, and we’re looking forward to diving into Fallout Worlds with all of you next month.”
