The Touryst was spotted on the PlayStation Store earlier this week, essentially confirming the well-liked indie title will be booking a flight to Sony's systems soon. Now, developer Shin'en Multimedia has confirmed as much: it'll release on both PS5 and PS4, and the graphical output is rather interesting. As far as we're aware, this is the first example of a game supersampling from 8K on PS5.

That's not to say the game will output at native 8K resolution. While the game will initially render at that 8K mark, it will supersample the image down to 4K, which is what you'll see on your display. Still, this is the first we've heard of a game doing this on PS5, and it should make for one heck of a clean image.

As you can see, on PS5 there will be two graphics options: 8K supersampling at 60 frames-per-second, or native 4K at 120 frames-per-second. Either way, the game's going to look pretty darn swish on your telly. On PS4, you'll still be getting a decent picture; it'll hit 1080p at 60 frames-per-second.

The game itself is a sandbox action platformer with a voxel art style. You play as a blocky holidaymaker visiting Monument Islands, and you can engage in all kinds of activities. While there are arcades to enjoy and waves to surf, you'll also be unraveling a mystery about an ancient civilisation, so it sounds like there's plenty of adventuring to be done.

The Touryst launches on PS5 and PS4 on 9th September 2021. Will you be checking it out? Tell us in the comments section below.
