Elder Scrolls Online Receiving More Graphical Updates in Update 31

Zenimax Online’s Elder Scrolls Online will see the consoles receive a fair share of graphical and performance improvements alongside the arrival of Update 31.

These improvements follow the release of the ESO Console Enhanced which saw the MMO receive an enhanced version for the current generation of consoles including the Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

However, it seems work continues on the performance and graphics front. Dynamic resolution scaling will be introduced with the engine still targeting 60fps. With Update 31, resolution will have the option of scaling based on load. This means Xbox Series X and PS5 will see resolutions between 1080p and 4K. On Xbox Series S, resolution will scale between 1080p and 1440p.

HDR was discussed next with the consoles set to receive a new hue-preserving HDR mode. This is meant to match the look of SDR but with the increased range of HDR. This option will be a toggle. We reached out to see if the PC version of ESO will receive this as well, and will update our story accordingly.

Speaking of the PC, multithreading rendering is arriving in the form of a beta. If you’re CPU-limited in ESO, you can toggle this option which should improve performance in theory. This will be an opt-in option, so be sure to check it out and leave feedback.

You can check out the rest of the details here. Elsewhere in ESO, Update 31 will also focus on PvP combat changes.
