This week, an exciting rumor made its way online suggesting that two of the biggest titles out right now could be crossing over in a pairing of Among Us and Fortnite. The official Among Us Twitter page jumped on the chance to set the record straight, but fans weren't entirely convinced by the response.

Of course, Fortnite is no stranger to major crossovers, recently bringing in a whole slew of skins inspired by celebrities, characters from hit TV shows, popular video game characters, and even blockbuster superheroes—with one of the latest being Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora. So, when a few days ago, a datamining effort pointed to a leak of a Fortnite and Among Us pairing, fans were immediately convinced.

If the Among Us Twitter is to be believed, however, the rumors are false. A tweet, composed in response to the rumors, suggested that while a potential crossover would be "super cool," it isn't currently in the works. At the very least, even if the datamining that started the rumor turns out to be misguided, fans remain optimistic that the effort itself could be a potential impetus for a Fortnite and Among Us crossover after both companies see the huge amount of interest that was generated. For now, at least one of the two parties appears interested.

Despite the clear-cut response, many Twitter users were unconvinced. The datamining within Fortnite's files seemed to strongly suggest a crossover with Among Us, including keywords like "Cafeteria," "Electrical," and "Security," which are locations that can be found on the various maps in Among Us. There's also the mention of other central phrases from Among Us such as "Sabotage," and "Tasks," both of which are actions that can be carried out in-game. This managed to further cement fans' belief that the findings could not possibly be coincidental.

Unfortunately, it's also quite easy to see how the leak could simply be related to Fortnite's latest season. As the Alien Invasion theme speeds ahead, Doctor Slone has recently tasked players with planting spy probes around the map to gather information. With this in mind, the file names that previously seemed to irrefutably suggest a crossover suddenly seem less than totally convincing, as they could simply be related to Fortnite's own in-game espionage-related missions. Still, with more than a few file names reading exactly the same as tasks or locations within Among Us, it is possible a surprise may yet be on the horizon for fans of either franchise.

Among Us is out now on Mobile, PC, and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions currently in development.
