John Marston is arguably the most beloved character in Red Dead Redemption 2. In addition to his gunslinging antics in the sequel, players have been long accustomed to John since his debut in Red Dead Redemption. John's expansive history in the Red Dead Redemption franchise has led to numerous of his defining traits becoming well known among the fanbase. However, one of his most identifiable traits is being called into question once again, as one Red Dead Redemption 2 player shows John doing the impossible.

As many players already know, one of John Marston's defining traits is his inability to swim. The gunslinger is dead in the water when he falls in, whether in the original Red Dead Redemption or when playing as John in the sequel. Players often do whatever they can to keep John away from most large bodies of water, though the circumstances are different when playing as Arthur. In the case of Redditor MexicanPringle, they saw the prime opportunity to see if John was secretly lying all along.

In a clip posted to Reddit, MexicanPringle (as Arthur) is standing on a wooden bridge with John nearby. It would seem that the two gangmates were enjoying a quick drink from a flask, though MexicanPringle had something else in mind. Within seconds, the Red Dead Redemption 2 fan pushes John over the ledge, sending the gunslinger into a series of flips that ends with a headfirst splash into the water below. Despite the death-defying tumble, John pops up from the water moments later, unscathed, and swims to shore.

What makes the clip even more hilarious is John's response to Arthur's crazy antics. Shortly after making it back to dry land, John tells Arthur "I don't need any more of what you're dishing out." Arthur has quite a history of teasing John, especially when it comes to his inability to swim. It's what makes the clip all the more intriguing to watch, as the context implies that Arthur has also discovered the truth and seeks to hold John accountable whenever possible.

Of course, the actual truth is that Rockstar never foresaw players doing all that they could to circumvent John's aversion to water. It's worth noting that this isn't the first time that a Red Dead Redemption 2 fan has exposed the Van Der Linde gang member. However, it certainly won't be the last, whether it be by a fellow player or another hilarious moment among Arthur and John themselves.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
