Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018 but fans continue to discover new details about the game. One player recently spotted a new incredible detail about shotguns that improves immersion.

There are several weapons in Arthur's arsenal in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a Reddit user known as Thrillhouss3 noticed a new detail about the shotguns. Accompanied with screenshots to prove their point, Thrillhouss3 said that primer caps are actually struck when shot. Just like real shotguns, this means that the empty cap will be ejected onto the ground below as Arthur reloads the weapon.

While many games will feature a similar detail to the one spotted by Thrillhouss3, one Reddit user pointed out that they typically use one casing model. This model is usually the spent casing so that players can see it drop to the ground as they reload, but Red Dead Redemption 2's shotgun has both the spent and unspent models.

With Red Dead Redemption 2 utilizing spent and unspent casing models, each shot has more weight behind it. Thrillhouss3's Reddit post also showed that the caps to the primer caps are fittingly brass in order to match the time period that the game takes place in. One Reddit user pointed out that some weapons aren't old enough to be part of Arthur's arsenal, but another noted that Rockstar Games opted to use recognizable firearms.

Primer caps are used to help ignite and project the pellets within the shotgun shell. These can be reloaded by gunsmiths, but in Red Dead Redemption 2, they're simply ejected and left to despawn in the field. Gun enthusiasts responding to Thrillhouss3 celebrated Rockstar Games' focus on making shotguns so accurate to their real-life counterparts.

A significant majority of the responses to Thrillhouss3's Reddit post celebrated Rockstar's attention to detail with Red Dead Redemption 2. Many fans were surprised to discover that Thrillhouss3 captured their screenshots using a base Xbox One console, with some speculating that it was on a high-powered PC. Thrillhouss3 quickly explained that the screenshots were improved with impressive camera work and manipulating the depth of field.

Critics of Rockstar Games who responded to Thrillhouss3's post lamented the fact that so many resources are being put towards GTA Online. Some were quick to defend the development studio as the revenue made through GTA Online made the incredible details of Red Dead Redemption 2 possible. With new Red Dead Redemption 2 weapon details emerging still, Rockstar Games' latest title still has plenty of secrets to uncover.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available right now for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
