The 90s were packed with plenty of Marvel productions that ensured superheroes like the X-Men and Spider-Man were forever ingrained into the minds of those growing back then. Now Mondo is making sure to immortalize that legacy by bringing the “Sad Wolverine” meme to full ⅙ scale life.

X-Men: The Animated Series and its Spider-Man counterpart have for long been credited as the key shows that helped what was then known as the Marvel Entertainment Group gain serious interest from bigger studios to produce the first wave of superhero films, based precisely on those sets of characters which in turn inspired Marvel's then risky MCU bet. Running for 5 seasons X-Men became a Saturday morning staple for millennials that decided to turn into a bigger part of pop culture by giving it meme status.

It’s no surprise then that toy, memorabilia, and collectibles manufacturer decided to turn “Sad Wolverine” or “Wolverine Crush” meme into an exclusive action figure set to be released on July 23 as part of the company’s plans for Comic-Con At Home 2021. For a retail price of $200, the boxed set perfectly recreates a very sad Logan lying in bed while staring at the picture of Cyclops and Jean Grey that has been swapped countless times on the internet to fit the humoristic intent of millions of people.

This famous scene comes from X-Men: The Animated Series season 1 episode 5, with meme historians considering a 2011 picture swap for the MCU’s Black Widow as the first instance when it was used as a meme to portray Logan and the other X-Men's longing to join Marvel other heroes. Mondo made sure to make this Wolverine fully articulated, while also including extra items like non-sad swappable heads (including a Morph one), several sets of claws, a meme-worthy turkey leg, and the blue spark effects Logan slashes in the series’ opening sequence.

“Sad Wolverine” goes up for pre-order on Friday 23, though anyone interested in grabbing ought to move fast because the product is being a San Diego Comic-Con timed exclusive. It’s hard to tell from the pictures and Mondo did not confirm this, but it seems like Cyclops and Jean’s photo could be replaceable and if that’s the case then this action figure would a meme factory by itself.

Luckily thanks to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox, X-Men: The Animated Series and the rest of the shows that went along with it during that era are currently available to watch at all times on Disney Plus, which still holds up incredibly well, perhaps even better than some of the X-Men movies. After all, Ron Wasserman's epic X-Men theme intro alone will surely get stuck in anyone's head.
