Melee units in party-based RPGs often get turned into damage-sponges thanks to the intensity of the combat in some games. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a title that will challenge players and their party in many ways. From status effects to brute strength, there's no shortage of tough encounters in Divinity: Original Sin 2 that can take quite a few attempts to succeed at. Players need to be at the top of their game if they wish to defeat the many tough bosses in this RPG, with their Physical and Magical Armor being critical to ensure that they don't end up being decimated by an enemy force that outnumbered or outclassed them.

Those seeking an excellent armor set for their melee-oriented allies should look for the Devourer Armor, each piece of which can be found in the aptly named quest "A Hunger from Beyond". During this dark quest in Divinity: Original Sin 2, players will be tracking down the individual pieces of this set throughout the land, so obtaining this excellent gear will take some time. It came as a part of the Relics of Rivellon set, along with the Contamination, Vulture, and Captain armor sets.

Updated on June 26, 2023, by Ritwik Mitra: Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best video games of all time, with this CRPG improving everything that was set up in the original game and then some. Controlling a party of lively characters and engaging in the tough-as-nails yet satisfying of the game is truly fun in every way. However, there are times when players can get frustrated by how challenging the combat can really be, with some enemies being so monstrously powerful that the player's party can potentially be annihilated in no time flat.

As a result, it becomes important to find the best armor sets around to tackle some of the tougher enemies in the game. The highest-level armor that players can find in the game aren't few and far between, so it's important to ensure that characters are decked out as much as possible so that they don't become a liability. One of the best armor sets that players can get is one that was added later on in Divinity: Original Sin 2 — the Devourer Armor. This powerful piece of armor is slowly drip-fed to players throughout the game and was added as additional content by Larian Entertainment after the game was released, with players having to go through a lengthy side quest to obtain it.

Where To Find The Devourer Armor

Devourer Armor Dragon in Divinity Original Sin 2

There are five pieces of armor that players need to attain to complete the Devourer's Armor set. After all five spirits appear, players will be transported to the Devourer Dragon's lair, whom they either need to bow to or defeat to unlock the full power of this set.

Where To Find The Devourer's Claws (Gloves)

Beyond the Gargoyle Maze located at an elevated part of the island's southeast portion, players will find a tower containing the first piece of the Devourer Set. Within this tower, there will be quite a bit to explore, and the maze itself can be pretty irritating to explore in many ways. However, if the player's sole purpose is to find the Devourer's Claws, then all they have to do is look within a cursed chest.

Where To Find The Devourer's Steps (Boots)

For the excellent Devourer Set boots, head to Stonegarden's graveyard, where one should find an immolated body labeled "Dead Shady Digger". Loot this unfortunate thief's corpse to find and ironically pilfer The Devourer's Steps from the crispy husk. When one puts on these boots, the spirit of a dwarf will appear to hint that the next piece of Devourer Armor can be found in the dreaded Blackpits.

Where To Find The Devourer's Eminence (Leggings)

On the ghost's advice, players should head to the Blackpits to find The Devourer's Eminence within the smoldering cavern. They have to speak to a stone dragon head known as the Voice of Flame and offer them a Fire Rune, which can be crafted or found in a container near the rocky being. When done, gamers will experience a strange vision, however, when they come back to reality, they will have the desired leggings in their inventory.

Where To Find The Devourer's Maw (Helmet)

The Vault of Linder Kemm, located in Arx, is where players will find the helm of this set. Within, there will be a blue cupboard that needs a combination to be opened, which can conveniently be located behind one of the nearby paintings. In case one's game glitches out and the painting cannot be moved for whatever reason, the code for the cupboard is 2-3-2-1-1-3.

Where To Find The Devourer's Heart (Chest Armor)

The final piece of this set is found in Arx, at the Consulate. Players will have to get to the upper area, which can be done in a variety of ways, such as climbing vines, teleporting, or flying. When one gets up there, look for a sack, as one of these holds The Devourer's Heart.

What The Devourer Armor Does

The Devourer Armor is one of the most powerful armor sets in the game. The entire set reached Level 20 when equipped at once, and boosts a player's defenses to astronomical heights. Given how tough the late game of Divinity: Original Sin 2 really is, it's easy to see why so many people want to get their hands on each piece of armor as soon as possible to minimize the chances of their party being overwhelmed by enemies when they reach Arx.

Equipping all of the pieces of the Devourer Armor at once will also grant a set bonus called Devourer's Slumber, which can be pretty beneficial in battle. When the wearer of the Devourer Armor enters combat, they automatically mark a random enemy target, who, upon dying will heal the player and reset all of their cooldowns. It's a great boon that can help the player out of a tight spot.

Death Knight Builds

Due to the high physical defense granted by the Devourer Set, it would be great for any melee build, however, the immunity it grants to Atrophy is particularly helpful for melee units that intend to focus on skill usage more than hitting targets directly with their weapon. One such melee build that requires constant usage of skills is the Death Knight archetype, as its heavy use of Necromancer skills is needed for the best results.

Furthermore, the downside to the Devourer Armor's weapon set bonus Devourer's Slumber (Devourer's Hunger) comes with an additional effect that will greatly hurt the wearer if they do not kill the marked enemy within 3 turns. If the battle isn't going well and the player cannot take out the marked target in time, Death Knights are resilient enough and can heal through Leeching blood on the battlefield to prevent them from succumbing too quickly to the effects of Devourer's Hunger.

Eternal Warrior Builds

Quite similar to Death Knights in both concept and practice, however, these builds possess a greater variety of skills as opposed to focusing on Necromancy and Warfare skills. For example, Bull Horns will let the player rush towards a target, potentially allowing those wearing the Devourer set to close the distance to the marked target more quickly.

Additionally, skills such as Vampiric Hunger to regain Life, and Bone Cage to buff the already impressive physical armor granted by wearing the Devourer Set, can grant greater longevity to the desired melee build. There is a lot of variability in Eternal Warriors builds, so players are a bit freer to pick and choose skills and other factors that would suit their interests.
