Cyberpunk 2077 has had a tumultuous life after its launch last December. Now that the game has enjoyed six months of patches and updates that have brought it to a stable place that the developers are happy with, many Cyberpunk 2077 fans have started wondering what the game's promised free DLC could look like.

Leading up to launch, developer CD Projekt Red promised that Cyberpunk 2077 would receive a handful of free DLC, similar to what the developer did following the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, the developers have stayed very tight-lipped about what those DLC could contain. Some fans have found unused areas in Cyberpunk 2077 that could hint at what the DLC could contain, but perhaps the best thing fans have to go off of is what the free DLCs for The Witcher 3 looked like.

What The Witcher 3's Free DLC Looked Like

The Witcher 3 Geralt in combat

Since the DLCs initial batch of DLCs that The Witcher 3 received were free, they were much smaller than the full paid expansions that were later released for the game. Many of the packs focused on increasing the customization options in the game while also adding some new equipment for players to use. These packs added things like Temerian Armor sets, new hair and beard styles, alternate costumes for Witcher 3's Yennefer and Triss, and some elite crossbows for Geralt to wield.

However, some of the DLC also included single quests for players to find in the world. These questlines were fully realized with voiced characters, designed areas, and their own, quality written stories. These DLCs brought the missions Contract: Missing Miners, Skellige's Most Wanted, Fool's Gold, and Where the Cat and Wolf Play to the game. The quests were used to either develop the relationships between characters a bit more, to show off some of the world's different cultures or just to explore a fun idea that didn't make it all the way into the full game. The other two standout DLC packs for The Witcher 3 introduced new finisher animations to the game's combat while the final DLC added a full New Game Plus mode. It seems likely that the free DLCs will be used to flesh out Cyberpunk 2077 in a similar way.

What Cyberpunk 2077's Free DLC Could Look Like

It is very likely that at least one of the free DLC will add some new options to Cyberpunk 2077's character creator, and could maybe add the option for players to change their character's appearance later in the game as well. The DLCs could also add some different appearance options for some of Cyberpunk 2077's NPCs like Missy, Panam, and maybe even Johnny Silverhand. This would help give players some more options for how they want their playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 to look, but after six months, some of the free DLCs will have to be a bit bigger to satisfy fans.

This will likely lead to some of the free DLCs introducing some new features and missions to Cyberpunk 2077. Possible new features would be things like being able to customize V's apartment, a new skill tree, or even a pack or two of new weapons for players to try out. The free one-off missions would also be a great opportunity for Cyberpunk 2077 to explore more about its various factions around Night city, especially the ones that didn't get as much of a presence in the main story or won't be featured in Cyberpunk 2077's bigger expansion DLCs.
