Since much of the planet went into lockdown last year due to the pandemic, society has had to quickly learn how to convert the real into the virtual, and this includes video games. With the likes of E3 being an all-digital event, it seems as though life is tentatively being lived through online spaces and many have grown accustomed to it. This is perhaps the reason why EA will be hosting a virtual, in-game music festival in The Sims 4 universe starting next week.

Announced earlier today, a report says that Electronic Arts will begin hosting what's known as "Sims Sessions" from Tuesday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 7. Essentially, it's an online music festival in which special guests will perform songs via The Sims 4 with the event being headlined by the likes of Bebe Rexha who will be performing her songs "Sabotage" with the lyrics translated into the gibberish language, Simlish. Other acts, such as Glass Animals and Joy Oladokun, will also be performing, but apparently their sets will be sung in English.

As well as checking out some live music, fans will also be able to interact with and explore the virtual festival arena. The report says that people will have access to "exclusive digital merchandise" which they can buy, as well as new outfits they can create. Having customizable clothing is very typical of The Sims, a franchise which is famous for its huge swathes of DLC and updates, including the latest one which brings farming and farm animals to the world of Sims 4.

Other stars who are set to join the festival include Katy Perry and Carly Rae Jepsen. On top of that, there is also going to be a host of TikTok stars who will be there for karaoke sessions. For those wondering, yes, even the karaoke music will be performed in Simlish.

This is also not the first time gaming and music have come together in virtual spaces. Back in February of this year, the Pokémon Company hosted an event which featured a Post Malone concert to celebrate the game's 25th anniversary. With this, it seems as though the world is experiencing a new way of engaging with others. While the internet has existed for decades now, it can be argued that lockdowns have enabled the full potential of online commerce and communication means, which has given billions access to exclusive events from the comfort of their own home.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
