Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer has entered its fourth week, and the story is starting to become ever more intricate, with the Vex threat slowly fading in the background while another danger lingers in the Last City. It is not a mystery that Lakshmi-2 was never fond of the idea of allying with the Eliksni in the first place, but ever since, her ways have grown even more passive-aggressive. She believes that the Eliksni will always be Fallen, and she states to have foreseen destruction in the Last City, a conflict, with Mithrax and the members of his House of Light at the very center of it, implying they are the cause of such battle in the future of Destiny 2.

The Vex were the root cause of Destiny 2's latest Season's inciting incident, but while players are still trying to overcome the time-traveling aliens in Override and Expunge, the conflict has shifted to one which resembles civil war. The collective objective remains that of stopping the Endless Night on the Last City, but while the Vanguard's allegiance to the Eliksni is supported by Guardians, the politics of Future War Cult incite rebellion from the people against the newfound allies of mankind. With this week's mission, players have started to sense that this is happening for a reason that could have little to do with politics and more with a slithering, invisible enemy that has been insinuating in the city for a long time, unnoticed.

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen, Savathun, And The Season Of The Splicer

Destiny 2 will get a new expansion next year called "The Witch Queen" revolving around Savathun and the Hive, with more details yet to be disclosed at this point. Strange events have been happening in Destiny 2 ever since its 12th Season, the Season of the Hunt, when Osiris lost his Ghost, Sagira, and became lightless. Crow, a light-bearer reborn into the body of Uldren Sov, came to the rescue and has had a growing bond with Osiris for the past three Seasons. Ever since then, the two have been caught whistling Savathun's Song from time to time.

Now, week 4 of the Season of the Splicer introduced a new message from Lakshmi-2 to the Guardians, stating that she has heard the people's song echoing through the city, and she proceeds to sing it too. This song's words are not important, but the underlying tune is a familiar one: Savathun's Song.

Savathun's Song In Destiny 2, Lakshmi-2, And The Implications Of The Story Thus Far

Savathun is the Hive God known as the Witch Queen, sister to the Hive God of War Xivu Arath, and Oryx, the Taken King from Destiny. Her Song is dangerous because it cannot be unheard, and Savathun is the master of mind control, meaning that those who hear her song will be controlled by her and compelled to do her bidding. The implications of the people of the Last City humming Savathun's Song are potentially catastrophic, and this could likely lead to the events of next year's expansion.

The fact that Lakshmi-2 is so antagonistic of the Eliksni already led to the people listening to her taking action against the House of Light by sabotaging their Ether production, and it's not unlikely that more of these events will be what sets in motion the events of Lakshmi's vision. It's plausible that Savathun has been crawling into the Last City ever since Osiris lost his light in the domain of the Hive, or else, it could be that Osiris himself is Savathun in disguise, sneakingly turning the people against the Vanguard. This will probably be disclosed gradually with the Season of the Splicer, or even further down the road. Regardless, Lakshmi singing Savathun's Song is one of the most interesting turning points in Destiny 2's lore of the last few months.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
