Destiny 2 fans finally received Season of the Splicer's main course over the weekend in the form of Vault of Glass. First released in the original game almost seven years ago, the series' first-ever raid activity is now available as a free update for all players of the sequel though, for veterans, the experience won't be exactly as remembered.
While the major beats remain largely identical, Bungie has taken the opportunity provided by hindsight to tweak various encounters, especially with regard to the six-man gauntlet's two boss fights. The Templar and its notorious Oracles, as well as big bad Atheon, have both been updated to make their respective showdowns with the Traveler's champions require a greater degree of communication and teamwork, with just enough being different to keep the longest-serving Guardians on their toes.
Despite this redux, however, even vague familiarity breeds confidence, to the extent that some incredibly skilled individuals have already pulled off a dizzying feat little more than 24 hours after the time-displaced treasure trove of Vex tech reopened. In a video recently uploaded to YouTube, players VoteforShifu and Nick topple Atheon, Time's Conflux as a duo instead of the usual six that Destiny 2's raids are intended for.
An impressive display, then, though it's worth noting that in order to successfully defeat the oversized robot and its minions, Shifu and Nick had to perform some workarounds. This included, among other things, purposefully performing a Finisher attack at a specific phase in the fight to prevent both Lightbearers from being teleported into the past or future. This allowed the individual left behind to clear the boss room of any threats and keep the portal open for their compatriot to return once their mechanic had resolved.
For the damage phase, Titan's Thundercrash and Warlock's Well of Radiance supers were used for DPS and survivability respectively, requiring multiple attempts in order to achieve the title of world's first. As the icing on the cake, VoteforShifu is rewarded for their efforts with VoG's reprised Exotic weapon, the Vex Mythoclast, an extremely rare drop from Atheon and one of the strongest ever released for both games.
As for whether this act will be repeatable by others in the future remains to be seen, of course, as Bungie is known to take swift action when it comes to patching out oversights that make these types of achievements possible. With that said, however, this is a feat that most players will likely be unable to replicate due to the extreme amount of coordination required and offers no advantage over just completing the endgame activity as intended.
