Many gamers will fondly remember the Valve multiplayer FPS title Counter-Strike. It was something of a monumental landmark in online first-person tactical action. It's a game that is still being talked about to this day, such as the recent news about the new paid stat tracking system causing quite the backlash in the community. That aside, the game is evidently still popular among some diehard fans as one user manages to port the game onto a Nintendo DS.

Posting to YouTube recently, a Counter-Strike fan known as Fewnity has showcased the game as it would appear on a DS Lite. The video is just under twenty seconds long, but is enough to show how the game looks and plays on the classic handheld console. What's impressive about this build is that it's not just a basic port. It actually allows the player to utilize the DS stylus to aim and fire, making full use of the console.

Many hardcore fans may recognize the Dust 2 backdrop that's used in the video. This is a particularly popular map with players, going as far as to be featured in the likes of Fortnite. It's also worth noting that Fewnity has not just ported the game and left it at that. They've implemented numerous updates to this version, keeping it as up-to-date as possible. What they've shown is just how committed to the franchise fans are when it comes to nostalgic PC games.

Released in 2000, Counter-Strike, with the sequel Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or simply CS:GO, coming out in 2012, is one of those games that rekindles a lot of nostalgia for many seasoned gamers. It was originally just a mod for Half-Life but eventually became a separate game in its own right. Not only is it considered a classic in the FPS genre, it's also become something of a mega money-spinner in eSports and is still influencing other titles more than twenty years after being released.

While only a brief clip, Fewnity says that they will be adding more features. The video also ends with a very brief message saying that they will also be making the game available on the Nintendo 3DS which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Quite how the user will implement the 3D feature that comes with this particular handheld remains to be seen, but it will arguably be interesting to find out how it will work.

Counter-Strike is available now through Steam.
