True to the series' legacy, Resident Evil Village is filled with fantastical puzzles. Do real-world castles have secret passages that are hidden beneath a drainage pool filled with blood? Most likely not, but it's par for the course in Resident Evil. Players making their way through Castle Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village will eventually come upon the Hall of Ablution. It is necessary to solve the room's riddle in order to proceed, but the solution isn't quite so obvious. With this short reference guide, gamers won't have to rely on trial-and-error this time around.

Players will end up at the Hall of Ablution during the search for Rose and the masks needed to solve the bust puzzle and escape the castle. The Duke will tip Ethan off that Rose might be kept in the private chambers of Lady Dimitrescu, the mistress of the castle. The Hall of Ablution itself is dripping with morbid sanguine beauty. Not to be distracted by the pool of blood in the center, players should notice that the four statues are interactable. There's a mystery to be solved here, and the plaque at the far end of the room provides a hint on how to do it.

The helpful plaque reads as follows. "Women are blind to male advances, but the poor shall take their chances to give their lord their bounty sown, so that soon the wine may flow." The quote contains references to each of the four statues found around the Hall of Ablution. It tells of the relationships between each of the characters depicted by the statues. The riddle isn't exactly clear, but players who are savvy at solving puzzles will come to the correct solution with enough thinking. Those with less patience can read on for the exact answer.

How to Solve Statue Puzzle in Hall of Ablution in Resident Evil Village

To quickly solve the Hall of Ablution puzzle, the statues must be oriented as follows:

  • Southwestern statue (lady holding glass) - turn north (towards cloaked figure holding wine bottle)
  • Northwestern statue (cloaked figure holding wine bottle) - turn south (towards lady holding glass)
  • Southeastern statue (group of men) - turn north (towards lord on his steed)
  • Northeastern statue (lord on his steed) - continue facing west (towards cloaked figure holding wine bottle)

Soon after the Hall of Ablution puzzle, players will come face-to-face with Lady Dimitrescu. Despite her popularity with fans, she is a very intimidating presence in the game. The showdown will be a test of the player's fight-or-flight instincts, but only time will tell if she can actually be killed.

The Hall of Ablution is one of the first major tests in Resident Evil Village for the player's puzzle-solving abilities. More puzzles will be waiting further on. There's more to surviving the horror than just blasting through hordes of enemies. Something that protagonist Ethan Winters knows all too well.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
