Ubisoft is branching out with The Division. The publisher has announced that it has a new entry in development, titled The Division Heartland — and it's going to be free-to-play. Currently in the works at Red Strom studio, Heartland is aiming for a "2021-2022" release on consoles (we're guessing it'll be on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4).
The game's also being billed as a "standalone" experience, meaning that you won't need any prior knowledge of the franchise to jump in. Heartland "will provide an all new perspective on the universe in a new setting," reads the official press release.
Outside of these key points, however, we don't have anything else to go on. We imagine that Ubisoft will show us something of Heartland this summer, probably during E3 2021 next month.
It's worth noting that this doesn't spell the end for The Division 2. Previously, Ubisoft stated that it still has a lot of plans for the looter shooter, and this press release reiterates that.

Big fan of the division. 100% intrigued
I'm interested but seems like it's in the completely different direction I thought they would have gone . I thought there was a stroy a little wile back where there was some kind of document or poll conducted where they seemed interested in Making a stand alone single player or more streamlined version of the division with out so much the rpg element and more inline with old Tom Clancy games .
Either way I'm always up for more division
I mean, games like The Division (multiplayer focused, continuously updated and microtransaction heavy games ) should always be free to play from the start in my opinion
I'm happy and sad at the same time because it's division, I really enjoy division, but it's free to play game and usually free to play games focuses more on battle pass, costumes and that's how they make money out of it, (I could be wrong) so I don't think it would be a good game. I hope they still put a good story in it to encourage players to play rather than just PVP or pvepvp (I just prefer a good story over multiplayer) it's just me...
I like the Division, but this almost sounds like they're going to re-skin the maps and assets from Far Cry 5.... Actually, that doesn't sound half bad.
I love The Division, and also their novels. I'm very excited about all the new content. And, going to free play isn't bad, all my friends picked it up when it was $5 on PSN and have dumped money afterwards into cosmetics. Can't wait to learn more!
@Olmaz compared to other ubisoft titles the division has least amount of MT.. you cannot buy gear or weapons.. just cosmetics even those you can get(most of em) by just playing..
take assassins creed or far cry you can buy everything from skill points, weapon, gear, skins, xp boosters, crafting items....
@H4ilHydra Fair enough. Still a lot, but not as much... My comment was more about the combo online/live/MTs that makes me think it should be free.

Bought the divisions 2 when it's discounted, I really enjoyed it on ps5.
Absolutely love the Division series, will not support it as a free to play game. All this will mean is extra grind and an overwhelming amount of microtransactions.
Please don't be a battle royale.
@H4ilHydra While true Div1 and 2 were not F2P games. I suspect a battle pass along with many more MTX and either of the previous games.
Love, LOVE the Division 2 (now in the top 3 of my games with the most hours of gameplay..with Borderlands 3 and Fallout 76) there is something so compelling about the gameplay loop, amazing graphics on the PS5 and metric ton of content. Current season (rerun) of Reanimated where the bad guys spring back to life and you have to zombie headshot them…is so very fun this week.
D2 is mainly (I think) PVE. You play as if you are playing a single player Fallout 4. But with a button click you can “call for backup” and a random will join you live and help. And then leave. This sense of single player with multi only when I want it is awesome and I hope they can keep that spirit with the new project. Very excited!
I'm sure they are going to get their money some way.....I'll just have to be the "I'll just do without" kind of player. Looking forward to it tho, Division 1&2 are GREAT
@Splat I definitely don't want that. How ever what if they make a larger scale survival game mode like they added from the first one . That could actually be alot of fun.

Great news! I absolutely love The Division.
@pharos_haven division 2 every season has option to paid seasonpass which gives you skins/dyes/emoticons/keys for cosmetic chests.. but you can ignore that.. there is no gear or weapons tied to paid season pass..
you can earn new gear, exotic weapons/gear, blueprints to craft these gear by just playing game- leveling up season (100 levels)
seasons reset every 3 months..
season 4 was supposed to be end of div 2 support but due to fans request for more content they are recycling season 1 content and season 2 so on till-- they can develop more content which is set for this fall 2021 or spring 2022..
once again only MT avail in this game is for cosmetics/emoticons.. for MMO this is great choice.. no pay to win bs.

Tasty! I played The Division 2 for the first time after the patch on PS5. Loved it. Picked up The Division 1 on XBSX now after the recent FPS Boost (couldn’t stomach 30 FPS after playing with 60 on Div2 😉).
Fingers crossed this won’t be another battle royale-game…
Love The Division games, will be interested to see what this new one is all about, I won't pass judgement until I've played it though 👍
@pharos_haven my bad.. then we can expect specialization classes to be sold for premium currency.. or something like far cry series.. everything on MT store..
