Everspace 2 is receiving a new update today which adds several new things like a new boss, companion, story missions, music, and much more. This is the first major update to the game, which is currently in Early Access. Here are the details.

Everspace 2 was launched (sorry, not sorry) into Early Access on Steam and GOG on January 18. This first big update, which we previously reported on, follows an Early Access roadmap which was announced earlier in February which touched upon star systems, player ships, companions, and more.

Those companions are part of this first major update for Everspace 2. A major part of this update includes three main missions and three side missions. These also include a bunch of side activities taking place in Union – the second star system.

New music tracks are also added to the game which include three battle themes and an additional chill synthwave beat for Supralight travel. A new heavy-class Bomber ship was added which is includes a nearly unlimited supply of missiles and miles. It can also regen its hull by damaging its enemies.

Michael Schade, CEO and Co-founder of Rockfish Games, remarked on this update in the accompanying press release,

“EVERSPACE 2 had a fantastic launch with 92% positive reviews right out of the gate back in January. Pilots were really excited, burned through the content and demanded more—a good problem to have. Going into Early Access, we had eight to twelve hours of story content and twice as many side activities, secrets, and challenges to discover, as well as five ship classes. With Union: Contracts/Hinterland we’re adding new, carefully scripted, story content, introducing all-new gameplay mechanics, a new ship class that brings a unique playstyle to the game as well as lots of hidden treasures in Union. We also made a ton of tweaks and quality-of-life improvements overall, so we encourage pilots to start a new game to get the full new experience, but they can also just hop in and continue with their existing saves.”
