Ryan Reynolds now has three films planned for 2021, including his exciting video game comedy Free Guy, which has already seen its fair share of delays since last year. Although Reynolds reacts to these setbacks with his usual brand of humor, the actor has another upcoming action-comedy coming soon, Lionsgate's The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.

The pandemic has really turned out incredibly well for Reynolds, who also completed filming for Netflix’s Red Notice in which he stars alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. He did this all while expanding his business ventures beyond the usual Aviation Gin, Match, and Mint Mobile by adding a fifth-tier English soccer team to his portfolio, always accompanying each and every one of those with some of the most ingenious advertisements out there.

For The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Reynolds is definitely channeling every bit of his internet personality, which continues to blur the line between the roles he plays on screen and what the Deadpool star may actually be like in real life. This time around, Reynolds stars as a stressed-out bodyguard who goes on vacation only to find work chasing him to his therapist mandated beach getaway, where his assassin friend’s wife (played by Salma Hayek) comes asking for help, a pretty funny recipe by most accounts that will be hitting theaters in June.

Reynolds' hitman friend is played by Samuel L. Jackson, meaning the two protagonists are equally accustomed to playing incredibly dangerous men with an impeccable sense of humor. The trailer, much like Reynolds, does not take itself too seriously, with Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time” serving as background music for all the violent action going on, definitely giving some very Deadpool vibes, sans the superpowers.

Both Reynolds and Hayek have future MCU projects to look forward to, as Marvel’s Eternals will be releasing this November 21 and Deadpool 3 could start filming as soon as later this year. In the latter’s case, Hayek will be playing a gender-swapped version of the powerful Ajak, although there are not many details known about Eternals’ story, something quite rare in the MCU's world.

Considering how well the incredibly entertaining yet flawed Godzilla vs. Kong has done for HBO Max, Reynolds' The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Free Guy look exactly like the kind of movies people need right now. Just a Deadpool-like gunman shooting bullets as casually as he fires jokes all over the place.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is scheduled for release on June 16, 2021.
