It does not seem long ago that the main way gamers bought their games was by driving down to a store and picking up a physical copy and excitedly looking at the disc, case, and instruction manual repeatedly on the ride home. But now it is increasingly rare for physical games to include anything extra at all, with most simply having a disc, download code, or a cartridge if it's for the Nintendo Switch.

With digital sales beginning to dominate game sales on consoles like PlayStation and Xbox, it is not that surprising that inserts and extras for physical copies of games are on the decline. However, many gamers still prefer purchasing physical copies of games and many players express disappointment that the physical copies don't come with as much as they used to.

In response to this, some gamers have set out to fill the hole with their very own instruction manuals. Fan-made instruction manuals have popped up on the internet before for games like Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Now, YouTuber Aurumonado has released a video showcasing an excellent manual they made for Super Mario Odyssey, and it even fits perfectly in the space above the cartridge in the case.

The booklet looks extremely professional and convincing. It lists everything that one would expect to find in a manual. There is a guide to the inputs required to do the multiple platforming moves, a list of the items players can expect to come across and what they do, information on the updates the game has received, and a page showcasing the hidden hint art from the game. The manual is even complete with safety information at the beginning and credits with warranty information at the end. The video has the Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine instruction manuals in the background for comparison, and the fan-created one looks right at home next to them.

Video game fans make some of the most incredible art to celebrate the games that they love, especially Nintendo fans. In the video's description Aurumonado details that this first one is a proof of concept and that they aim to make a manual for all of Nintendo's first-party releases on Switch, so it will be great to see what they make for games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. For any fans who also have a hole in their video game collection that only physical manuals can fill, Aurumonado has also started an Etsy shop to sell the manuals through.
