Edge of Eternity is a role-playing title inspired by the Japanese classics. It's been in early access on Steam for roughly two years, but with the help of a huge update set to release this summer, the game's finally leaving its testing phase.
And to celebrate, developer Midgar Studio has confirmed that Edge of Eternity will find its way to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in late 2021.
A bit more information on the game itself: it's got branching quests based on your actions, a turn based combat system, and a soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda, who composed the music for Chrono Trigger and Xenoblade Chronicles.
Edge of Eternity looks a bit... Wonky in the trailer that we've embedded above, but if the gameplay holds up, it could be one to watch if you're a fan of JRPGs. Is it on your radar? Plan your attacks in the comments section below.

If the devs can iron the game out more it looks like it could be a fun time.
To be clear, is it considered "JRPG inspired RPG" and ot a "JRPG" simply because it's not developed in Japan?
I guess we will have to revive the old question : Is JRPG a genre on its own, or is it a description of RPGs produced in Japan?
I myself see it as a genre : Dark Souls is not an JRPG in my view, but Cosmic Star Heroine is one...
@Olmaz "No! Don't open that, door!"
Man, the facial animations in this game are the stuff of nightmares.
Nice asari subheader there.
For those that also have an Xbox, it will be on GamePass day one. Looks great!
@Olmaz. You making a big deal out of nothing playa🤔.let it rest.word up son
Looks neat to me. I like that hexogonal grid thing. Looked fairly unique.
First of all its from a French developer meaning it's not a "JRPG" as the J stands for Japanese so it's just a SRPG (strategy)
Secondly you forgot to mention that this is year another game avialbale on gamepass day one!
So how many new games is that that gamepass is getting day one? Buy a ps5 and pay full price for all your games vs buy an xbox and pay £10 a month to play new games plus hundreds more, take April for instance pay £130 to play MLB and outriders or on xbox pay £10 to play both plus hundreds more?
Don't get me wrong I'm a sony guy but I can't help feel like I'm getting robbed this gen by sony, last gen my xbox was just so that I can play the handful of exclusives every now and then, but this gen its the reverse, I hope sony can do something soon and just revamp ps now and make it just as good as gamepass and also acquire some new studios
@Olmaz was discussing this yesterday on pure xbox

@UltimateOtaku91 And so the conversation goes on, and will never end!
@Olmaz haha true, well what comes to mind if someone says the term "western RPG"?
@UltimateOtaku91 That's the difference between a trillion dollar company and a 45 billion dollar company. Sony relies heavily on their profits to function, while Microsoft, or in this case Xbox, hasn't made a profit in years and burns through billions a year because they have eff it money.
I don't usually play sides, but this generation Xbox is playing dirty and buying everything to throw their dingdong around just to assert dominance. It's lame. I say that as someone who's enjoyed all their consoles and have been subbed to Gamepass for years on both Xbox and PC.
@UltimateOtaku91 Let's forget about the JRPG thing for now, it's just silly things and it amuses me every time people get riled up about it.
But about comparing Microsoft and Sony strategies... Yes, what Microsoft is offering has currently more value for each penny you're spending, nobody, nowhere will argue the contrary. Game Pass is such an incredible deal it's silly, and I'm sure it's making Playstation execs sweat profusely.
But now let's think about the long term and the potential consequences of letting the gaming industry becoming what is currently the movie/tv industry :
All in all, I am very pessimistic about the future of my hobby. While I don't see any immediate danger, I'm pretty sure the gaming landscape will be very different in 5 years (not in a good way) and what Microsoft is doing right now will have had a major influence on that change.
This is definitely on my radar!
Midgar Studio seems a tad wrong to use.
Its like me making a studio and calling it Hyrule Studio.
That logo is excellent. Colour me interested.
Hard pass on this game, unless the final product looks drastically different from the trailer I saw.
@Olmaz Loved your piece and im happy not be the only seeing the the clouds gather. Maybe im a little more doom and gloom then you about it.
The costs will increase but the games that deserve get less money out if it. And im no idiot in the money departement Sony has no chance. Its a pity that we will see another victum of a multibillion company that will kill of competition by dropping cash.
I may sound as a broken record but these corporations will be on top in the end.
Look at Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Disney, Uber, Superstores (Wallmart) and stuff. They all have one thing in common killing of the competition and by buying up everything and in the end they end up controlling the market.
Just like everything in the US a few companies that control everything. Its with providers, meatproducers, supermarkets, online stores its a pity too see people support these massive companies that undermine everything.
Here there are some people calling Microsoft the underdog already no idea why. Sony may be flawed as a company but they work with companies instead of buying up everything. Maybe the great thing is that they dont have enough money too buy up everything.
