Over the last few months, MiHoYo created a wildly complex world in the mobile game Genshin Impact. Adventurers from around to world can explore the vast world of Teyvat in the countries of Mondstadt (with its delicious local delicacies) and Liyue. Along the way, there are a variety of different characters and organizations throughout the land that the player will come into contact with.
One of the most intricate of these organizations, as well as one of the first the Traveler will meet on their journey, is the Adventurers' Guild: a global organization to support adventurers throughout Teyvat. That said, there are a lot of facts that make this organization different than any other in Genshin Impact, from its rules to its relationship with groups like the Fatui.
10 The Guild Guides The Gameplay
The Adventurers' Guild is the first organization that the player character comes into contact with upon entering Mondstadt, aside from the Knights of Favonius represented by the (literally) fiery personality that is Amber. As one of the three major organizations to have a base in Mondstadt, the role that the Adventurers' Guild plays in the daily life of Genshin Impact is quite significant.
This includes short-term activities that occur daily, like daily commissions that are especially important after the end of the main story quest. These kinds of short quests make up a large wealth of the primogems that are given naturally by the game, a total of 60 primogems per day (also making the organization important for the gacha aspects of Genshin Impact). These come in addition to rewards associated with a player's Adventure Rank, making the Adventurers' Guild the most important organization in progressing the game forward.
9 Origins In Snezhnaya
Although the Adventurers' Guild is associated with Mondstadt and Liyue in the minds of players in the Genshin Impact community, the history of the organization is a little bit different than some may expect. Originally, the organization was founded in the nation of Snezhnaya.
Ruled with a cold hand by the Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon and founder of the villainous Fatui, this may be the last place that many would expect such a friendly and welcoming organization to originate from. Nonetheless, the head branch of the Adventurers' Guild can still be found in Snezhnaya, leading many to wonder what the organization will look like when Snezhnaya is finally released in the far, far future.
8 They Are Constantly Recruiting
Believe it or not, for an organization so crucial to the player experience, the Adventurers' Guild has very clear recruitment issues. NPCs like Tiantian in Liyue make this situation very clear for players, constantly being seen roaming the city trying to recruit more members.
This is further expressed in limited-time event quests, especially in the Windblume Festival anecdote quest Adventures in Windblume, in which the player helps Cyrus conduct recruitments for the Guild.
7 The Meaning Of Ad Astra Abyssoque
Ad Astra Abyssosque is one of the most iconic phrases to come out of Genshin Impact to date, but many players still don't know what these words actually mean. The motto of the Adventurers' Guild, in Latin it means "To the Stars and the Abyss." This can generally be assumed to refer to the organization's role in supporting adventurers looking to travel great lengths.
The reference to the Stars shows the Guild's goal to send their adventurers great distances in pursuit of their dreams, while the Abyss shows their goal to explore regions that are currently unknown and mysterious.
6 Its Organization Is Very Complex
Although the organization may seem rather simplistic compared to its counterparts in Mondstadt, the Knights of Favonius, and the Church, the Adventurers' Guild has a very complex structure. There are a clear set of leadership positions found in each country's branch, headed by a Branch Master, with several subordinate positions below them.
The NPC Lan sums up the way these structural positions are acquired fairly well, saying in her dialogue that the "Guild offered her the position of Branch Master in recognition of completing two S-rank commissions."
5 They Have An Intelligence Department
Everybody knows the Monstadt Adventurers' Guild by their ranks of adventurers and commissions, with characters like Stanley and the fan-favorite adventurer Bennett. The Guild's second department, the Intelligence Department, isn't so well known. This is the part of the organization that tackles the behind-the-scenes work of adventuring: collecting information that is given to the adventurers that are a part of the organization.
These are the people in the Guild that make adventuring safe, by ensuring that dangerous hazards are discovered. The Prinzessin der Verurteilung herself, Fischl, is the most well-known character in the Intelligence Department of the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild, having become an investigator very shortly after joining the Adventurers' Guild.
4 They Offer A Variety Of Commissions
Commissions make up a hefty amount of the gameplay in Genshin Impact, but many aren't familiar with the actual process of submitting a commission. Generally speaking, any person in Teyvat can submit a request to the Adventurers' Guild. As such, there are a wide variety of different commissions available to the Traveler throughout their journey: item gathering, path clearing, even gift shopping in Rudolf's case.
The Adventurers' Guild doesn't let just anybody pick up a difficult mission, however. They implement a difficulty ranking depending on a commission's level of challenge, from B to A to S rank commissions. S rank commissions are by far the most difficult, the type of commission that Lan needed to complete to become Liyue's Branch Master.
3 What Is Their Relationship With The Tsaritsa?
Although the Adventurers' Guild was formed in Snezhnaya, that does not mean that the organization is on good terms with the Tsaritsa and the Fatui. In fact, there is a lot of evidence that supports the idea that the Adventurers' Guild is working independently of other organizations in Teyvat. For one thing, there is no mention of the Adventurers' Guild being regulated or following orders from the Tsaritsa.
The Adventurers' Guild also tends to be built on a local membership, with leadership positions being held by citizens from Mondstadt and Liyue rather than Snezhnayans like in the Fatui. In the end, the only evidence given throughout the story of the Adventurers' Guild being dependent on Snezhnayan supervision is this: Lan's position of Branch Master is offered by the Snezhnayan Adventurers' Guild's Main Branch.
2 They Offer Rules For Adventuring
While the Knights of Favonius are typically seen as the legislators of Mondstadt, the Adventurers' Guild are the broad enforcers of rules in domains. In Bennett's story, it is mentioned that he is the only adventurer in Mondstadt allowed to enter domains without a party. While Bennett's situation can be attributed to his share of bad luck, this also gives the player a view of how the Adventurers' Guild maintains safety measures during adventures.
The Adventurers' Guild mandates that every adventurer must have a party to be listed on the Guild's roster. It does this for safety's sake. After all, domains are filled with dangerous creatures from the Abyss and bandits like the Treasure Hoarders.
1 Katheryne Has A Lot Of Power
Time and time again, the game offers proof of the NPC Katheryne's power over the operations of the Adventurers' Guild. Katheryne is the receptionist of each branch, with each nation having an identical Katheryne so far. Of course, this isn't official power in most cases; the Branch Master is, technically, the most powerful figure in each branch.
Nonetheless, Katheryne remains the face of the Adventurers' Guild for most players. Being one of the first NPCs met in the world, Katheryne sets the tone for everything the Adventurers' Guild stands for. In Bennett's case, the only reason that he's allowed to go on adventures is that Katheryne doesn't have the heart to remove him from the Guild's books. In addition, when talking to Lan in Liyue, she almost immediately takes the player to Katheryne because she "isn't intimately acquainted with the workings of the Guild." Clearly, Katheryne has more influence in the Adventurers' Guild than she lets on.
