The Last of Us 2 continues to rake in more award wins, with the latest going to voice actress Laura Bailey. One of several big awards won for her performance as the The Last of Us 2 character Abby, fans of both Bailey and the character should be pleased by this news.

While many have grown attached to Abby, a vocal minority despise the character for her role in The Last of Us 2’s most controversial scene. When the plot leaked for the game, many built up a grudge against Abby before they even saw her story play out, with a focused group of gamers doing everything they could to make their hatred for her known. This included the review bombing of The Last of Us 2, harassment of several developers, and, unfortunately, death threats directed at Laura Bailey herself.

Despite the death threats Laura Bailey received from so-called fans of the franchise, she has received plenty of love from critics. Delivering an incredible performance as the WLF member, Bailey has won numerous awards for the role. The biggest was at The Game Awards, as she was given the honor of best performance. A moment that understandably moved her to tears, Bailey’s acceptance speech is both a heartwarming moment as well as an excellent response to all the controversy.

Laura Bailey can now add a BAFTA award to her list of accomplishments, as she has brought home the trophy for the “Performaner In A Leading Role” category. Bailey beat out some stiff competition, including fellow The Last of Us 2 star Ashley Johnson. Other nominees included Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales, Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai, Cody Christian as Cloud Strife, and Cherami Leigh who played Cyberpunk 2077’s protagonist V. Another incredible honor for the actress, this was only one of The Last of Us 2’s wins at the event.

The Last of Us 2 also brought home the BAFTA award for Best Animation, a win that many will consider to be well-deserved. It also managed to win another fan-voted Game of the Year award, something that is incredibly interesting considering how divisive the game is. With hugely popular titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Call of Duty: Warzone both available to vote for in the poll, this is an impressive win for The Last of Us 2. Considering that the game has the most awards wins of all time, these BAFTA victories will only make its record harder to beat.

Still, Laura Bailey getting another win is amazing to see, especially with everything she had to go through after the game released. While it remains to be seen if she will return to the role via an Abby-focused DLC or a third The Last of Us game, clearly Bailey has already made a massive impact with her original performance.

The Last of Us 2 is available now on PS4.
