Atlas Q&A Talks PvE, Game Balance, More

A new Q&A with the developers of pirate-themed survival game, Atlas, shed some more info on PvE, game balance, and much more.

The questions ran the gamut with some asking about the recently released land claims system as part of patch 523.8. The relevant question asked if this system will persist after a wipe. The team clarified that they’re continuing to make updates to the system, though the system may very well persist after the wipe. However, map changes were being finalized still.

Game balance was naturally a big topic and the devs provided a bit more insight into how they’re planning on handling balance though admittedly, it wasn’t much to go on,

“Balance changes are happening continuously in small amounts. We don't have a focus on getting balance "right" because so many things are still getting added to the game. We want to get all of our changes in to get a better understanding of the big picture and then will come back and tighten the balance.”

A roadmap was also asked about with the devs replying that they’re focusing on “getting ready for a larger summer release.” This release is expected to include more ships and bits of the ship customization system. They’re also working on additional maps which connect various parts of the world as opposed to one large map.

PvE was also a major point of discussion with the community, which the team addressed,

“Some of our changes are specifically driving PVP goals and do not fit well with PVE. We are looking at ways we can do a better job keeping PVP changes from creating bad experiences in the PVE community without having to spend a lot of time working on it to support two different play styles. In some cases, that means we need to not put those PVP systems on PVE. It also means we need to give unofficial server owners better tools for choosing how they want their world to be configured.”
