Turok 2: Seeds of Evil-- a game originally released over twenty years ago--is receiving online multiplayer on the Nintendo Switch. Turok 2 is a classic Nintendo 64 title that made a return to the Nintendo Switch, and now is receiving new features.

Turok 2 was released on the Nintendo Switch in late 2019 without multiplayer features, which was a disappointment to some. However, developer Nightdive Studios promised that it would continue to support the game post-launch, and it has done just that.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will receive a patch tomorrow, February 25, 2021. The update will come with a bevy of exciting additions including German audio localization, support for gyro for some third-party controllers (including the Hori Split Pad controllers), and additional stability. Of course, the highlight of the update is the online multiplayer. It is quite impressive to add online multiplayer to a game that Nintendo fans have enjoyed since 1998.

There is still no news of local or split-screen multiplayer for the game. So for now, the only way Nintendo Switch players can enjoy the multiplayer experience is via online play. However, that is certainly something to celebrate for fans of the game. Xbox One players have been able to enjoy online play on Turok 2 for quite some time now, so parity across the two versions is appreciated.

Enjoying retro gaming is special. Re-releasing video games to play them again as they were once enjoyed is a great way to preserve the game itself, but also the joy from that time as well. But it is also special to add new experiences to the old games. A game like Turok 2 on the Nintendo 64 obviously did not support online play, but in the year 2021 on current consoles it can, and that is something that gamers should celebrate.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is out now on Switch and Xbox One.
