Sony is "feeling pretty good" about the possibility of Horizon Forbidden West launching this year alongside first-party exclusives Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The quote comes as part of a new, bumper interview with boss Jim Ryan, where the main man is asked about the release roadmap for 2021 among many other things. He fails to mention God of War Ragnarok in his response, however.
Ryan says: "Yeah, we’re feeling pretty good about Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West. And, you know, there are two approaches to this: you can either hold the date and put out the game irrespective of quality or you can ship it when it’s right. We have always taken the latter approach. There have been some fairly high-profile instances of publishers trying the former approach." Quite clearly referencing the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle at the end, Jim Ryan reiterates Sony's commitment to only putting out titles when they're ready for the mass market.
And on the topic of God of War Ragnarok, PlayStation fans have been wary that the follow-up to the 2018 classic may not actually make it this year. Maybe the fact that Ryan didn't bring up the sequel in his response is reading into things a little bit too much, but we'll have to wait and see.
Let's hope Horizon Forbidden West at least does make it out in 2021 and doesn't suffer the same fate as Gran Turismo 7 — that has just been delayed to 2022. Will we really be playing Aloy's next adventure this year? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

There is no way God of War 2 is coming out this year. No freakin' way. It was silly putting a 2021 label at the end of the reveal trailer.
I wouldn't be surprised if HFW got delayed to next year as well.
At this point GoW coming this year would be a pleasant surprise
Apparently, Cory Barlog has never heard of "God of War Ragnarok."
The word “possibility” being attached to the release of HFW this year does not fill me with good feelings.
So given the game that had gameplay footage is delayed, I can't see PNG Ragnarok making it.
If it does, I'll be stunned.

Yes, I think Horizon Forbidden West will be out by the end of this year. It has been almost 4 years since the first game came out. And I can’t wait to play it.
I'm okay with the delay, it's nice sometimes not to be bombarded with new great games, it give me more times to finish my backlog.
Cant wait till i can play this on my Ps4. Maybe if i get lucky sooner or later Hopefully a Ps5.
Yeah, i am surprised Sony slapped a 2021 release on GOW. They should have known better than that really. It is definitely not coming this year. Horizon in September and maybe Gran Turismo in November are likely however
Edit: just saw the news of the GT delay below 😅 no big surprise there. I'm not bothered by that one anyway. So long as we get Horizon Forbidden West 🙏

@LordSteev Agreed no unfinished garbage especially when it's a sequel to one of my favourites thankfully Sony have proven that they would not rush a launch so i'm not worried the longer wait does suck but is always worth it in the end

I really want horizon FW to be the first game I play on PS5 when I get one, but I don't think I have the self control to wait however long that may be...
Ya, not looking good for a 2021 God of War. But Im fine with Horizon II being the marquee exclusive for the year, and it looks incredible. Still looking forward to Ratchet & Clank and Returnal as well.
4/5 first party games for the year is still something
I was worried about HFW being able to run on the PS4 after they showed the underwater gameplay but I'm about 1/3 of the way thru Shadow of the Tomb Raider now and I've put my worries aside. SotTR is not only a 2 year old game but it's multiplat and the underwater looks and works great. I just finished The Witcher 3 and underwater in there was severely lacking.
Point is, I was worried about the PS4 getting skipped and holding back development, but Tomb Raider is so impressive Guerrilla Games should be able to handle a great game just building off the first.
Just wait a few years and you can play all these on PC. Announcing GOW and HZD before launch was just a way to push sales. MS already has them on there heels buying up half the third party industry, so Sony needed to give a reason to buy a PS5 at launch. Even though they had no intention on releasing these games this year.
Well I guess they will be aiming for a big AAA towards Christmas and HZDFW looks like the only one available to finish in time.
So I think they will pull out all the stops to get it ready for late 2021.
As much as the PS5 is in demand, it is always good to be ahead of the competition and keep interest at top levels.
I think Xbox will have Halo and at least one other for late 2021.
Nintendo maybe BOTW2 who knows with them at the moment.
Expect more game delays as working from home for developers must be a major struggle.
Take your time.
I'm fine with waiting, especially if it means the game will be as good, if not better than the originals.

Even if things were normal, I would have thought God of War Ragnarok was a long shot to come out this year anyways. With Horizon Forbidden West taking up the last quarter of the year (likely), there was never really any need to push to have both out in 2021.
Yes, we will be playing Forbidden West next year! Just hopefully getting started this year. Screw god of war, that game was dumb.
