One of the unexpected surprises of 2020 was the resurgence of video game projects on Kickstarter. After a decline brought on by games that did not live up to expectations, fans are beginning to cautiously return to the platform and support projects like Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series. Eiyuden Chronicle features some of the top talent from the golden age of JRPGs, with staff from the original Suikoden 1 & 2 on board for the project. Now, the indie RPG has found a publisher to work with.

With just over $4.5 million dollars raised, and a campaign that ranks as the third largest video game project ever on Kickstarter, Eiyuden Chronicle has a lot of people excited. While the game is still in the early stages of development, the organization of the campaign and communication from the developer, Rabbit & Bear Studios, has left a good impression with fans, as well as investors, apparently.

The clear goals and realistic scope of the project has led to Eiyuden Chronicle securing 505 Games as a publisher for the game. This partnership should be one more piece of assurance to fans that the game is in good hands. 505 Games produced the successfully Kickstarted Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night helmed by Koji Igarashi. Bloodstained recently had new content added, which bodes well for Eiyuden Chronicle, as it seems that 505 Games will support the titles it publishes years down the road.

Though Eiyuden Chronicle has not revealed too much in the way of gameplay since the Kickstarter campaign, there have been updates showing off characters, and some game stills. The game will feature some popular mechanics from Suikoden, so those looking for a nostalgic nod to the classic games won't be disappointed.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is in development, scheduled for a late 2022 release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
