While not among the increased spawn rates for the new event in Pokemon GO, Sneasel is one of the more popular Pokemon from the Johto region. It also has a very appealing shiny form with its usual black fur replaced with a soft pink.
Those looking for a shiny Sneasel might not get any benefits from the Johto Celebration Event, but there are ways to boost the odds. Players just need to be prepared to use the right items and catch a lot of Pokemon during the hunt.
Sneasel is a dual dark and ice-type Pokemon. This means that it is weak to fighting, fairy, bug, steel, fire, and rock-type moves. It also means that it resists ghost, ice, dark, and psychic-type moves. This Pokemon's ice-typing is going to be the most helpful part when it comes to hunting for Sneasel and getting it to spawn.
While players can use lures and incense in order to increase general spawn rates, there is no real way to force Sneasel specifically to spawn. After all, there are hundreds of different Pokemon in Pokemon GO that can be found in the wild. Instead, players are recommended to find a PokeStop they can stay near for an extended period of time and put a Glacial Lure on it.
Glacial Lures are different from the normal lures that players can place on PokeStops. This is due to Glacial Lures only attracting water and ice-type Pokemon instead of any type. Even with a Glacial Lure, there is no way to guarantee for any Sneasels to spawn. Since it is impossible to tell if a Pokemon is shiny from the overworld map, players will need to go into every Sneasel encounter they can get so they can see if they've found one.
Catching every Sneasel that appears is also recommended in case players want to eventually evolve their shiny Sneasel. In order to evolve Sneasel into Weavile, players need 100 Sneasel candies and one Sinnoh Stone.
