Update: Here's something of a head-scratcher: Resident Evil Re:Verse is being developed for the PlayStation 4 only, despite it being bundled with Resident Evil Village, which will release on the PlayStation 5 as well as the PlayStation 4. Capcom explains that the game will playable on Sony's next-gen system via backwards compatibility.

The press release explains: "This thank you bonus to fans features striking comic-style visuals and sets popular Resident Evil characters against each other in four to six-player deathmatch battles in iconic Resident Evil locations. Players can choose from a fan-favorite roster, each with their own unique skillsets to master. When players are defeated in combat, their character respawns by mutating into a bioweapon to enact revenge on their foes. More information on Resident Evil Re:Verse will be shared at a later time."

Original Story: Just like with Resident Evil 3, publisher Capcom is once again bundling a free multiplayer mode with one of its flagship campaigns. This time, everyone who buys Resident Evil Village will also get Resident Evil Re:Verse, an six-person online experience focusing on fan favourite characters like Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

The reveal trailer – debuted during the Resident Evil Showcase livestream – was light on information. The game appears to be adopting an unorthodox art style: it has a cel-shaded, comic book look to it. We know that the company is planning a closed beta for this, as it was recently accepting applicants for that. Presumably we’ll learn more soon.
