Apex Legends has had some strange bugs in the past, like one that let players fire their weapon even after being downed. However, a new bug shared online involving a deathbox may take the cake as one of the craziest ones.

Developer Respawn Entertainment is usually quick to resolve issues in Apex Legends, with problems like Rampart’s turret crashing the game when placed on a Trident being fixed in a little over a week. Still, a multiplayer game like Apex is just so full of variables that it's hard to identify bugs and squash them, like how Mirage’s decoy’s footsteps are still not audible despite a patch releasing that was meant to fix the issue.

This new bug was discovered by Reddit user phantom56657, who shared an unusual instance involving a deathbox. The video takes place on World’s Edge, where phantom is knocked down and attempts to crawl behind a supply bin in the Epicenter area. Their teammate Lifeline tries to help but also is knocked in the same area. The Horizon who knocked both of them tries to use a finisher, but because the two are on top of each other, it selects Lifeline instead, giving phantom56657 a chance to use their self-reviving knockdown shield.

When the Horizon finisher ends, Lifeline’s deathbox pops into the air and lands on top of the self-reviving phantom56657. Because phantom is pinned in a corner by the deathbox, the Horizon cannot get an angle to shoot them. Crazier still is when phantom gets up, they are then clipping into the deathbox, being completely protected by it. Not even Horizon's powerful ultimate that draws people to it could suck phantom out from under the deathbox as they completely heal and grab their teammate’s banner.

As if that wasn’t crazy enough, phantom was then able to escape using their Pathfinfer grapple – which has had some funny bugs of its own – and completely escape the other team without taking almost any damage. Sadly the fun stops there, as phantom56657 says in the comments that they were then killed by another squad while trying to respawn their teammate whose deathbox saved their life.

While Respawn could certainly patch the issue, making it so no one clips into the underside of a deathbox, this clip is more of a fluke than anything, as it's a highly specific set of circumstances that set phantom up for success. Still, perhaps Respawn may want to consider moving those supply bins back against the wall so that no one else can try to replicate such a daring escape.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
