With a massive cast of colorful characters, Overwatch has proven to have one of the most vibrant cosplay communities in all of video games. With a diverse set of heroes from around the world and said heroes coming in all kinds of different shapes and sizes, anyone can cosplay as a character from Blizzard's hero shooter. As such, it is just as common to see a celebrity like Halsey dressed up as D.Va as it is to see a regular fan donning the look of a character like Mercy.
While many great Overwatch cosplays have been shared over the years, some of the most impressive costumes yet have been revealed in the last several weeks. From cosplays enhanced by photoshopped backgrounds to outfits that bring fan-made skin concepts to life, cosplayers have gotten extremely creative with their designs as of late. With weapon replicas and working equipment even included in some of the costumes, the attention to detail is clear in all of the very best Overwatch cosplays.
Ena Fox’s Classic D.Va
Ena Fox’s excellent D.Va cosplay is proof that sometimes simplicity is best. With Fox’s eyes and facial structure being a natural fit for D.Va, all it took was the iconic face paint, a headset, and a great costume to bring the character to life. Fox’s version of D.Va’s bodysuit is on point, boasting every detail from metallic neck armor to the brand advertisements running down the hero’s leg. With Fox mimicking a D.Va victory pose and laying upside down against a pink background, it is easy to imagine that the cosplayer is laying on top of the pro gamer’s mech. With an accurate replica of D.Va’s Light Gun also included in the design, Ena Fox’s take on the hero’s default skin is truly masterful. With Fox recently posting more photos where the Light Gun is being fired, it seems like she is not quite done embodying the role of Hana Song.
Zibartas’ Animatronic Mercy
Cosplayer Zibartas originally gained attention for his Doomfist Guantlet replica and a Soldier 76 cosplay, but his functional Mercy outfit is even better than his previous work. Focusing on Blizzard’s original concept for the hero, which would have seen Mercy as a male battle angel as opposed to the beloved doctor we have today, Zibartas’ costume boasts several eye-catching features. While the red and black leather outfit is certainly well done, the truly spectacular thing about the cosplay is that Mercy’s wings actually work. By the press of a button, Zibartas can extend the wings, and the process is truly a sight to behold. With a bright halo on his head lit by LEDs as well as a version of Mercy’s Caduceus Staff that spins just like it does in-game, this costume is above and beyond the competition when it comes to the highly advanced replicas being used.
Valentino Notari’s Photoshopped Junkrat
Another top-tier Overwatch cosplay showcases a team-up between Axel Nova Photography and Valentino “Imriel” Notari. The combination of a skilled photo editor and cosplayer makes for an excellent overall design centered on Junkrat, the game’s explosive-loving damage hero. Notari’s outfit brings the hero’s signature brand of craziness to the real world, showcasing his singed forehead and prosthetic leg in excellent detail. With Junkrat’s absurd eyebrows and hairstyle also captured, as well as the hero’s grenade launcher and RIP-TIRE weaponry, Notari’s outfit is the full package. However, what makes the cosplay truly special is the editing, as the massive explosion going off behind Junkrat creates a setting truly fitting of the hero.
My-Lil-Pwny’s Hellspawn Reaper
Rounding out the list is a cosplay of everyone’s favorite Overwatch edgelord, with My-Lil-Pwny filling the shoes of the shotgun-wielding Reaper. However, the cosplayer’s excellent Reaper costume is a bit different from the standard outfits worn by those who dress up as the hero, as the design is based entirely on a skin concept created by a different fan. Bringing FonteArt’s Hellspawn Reaper design from a drawing to an actual costume was likely not an easy task, but My-Lil-Pwny still managed to do a stellar job with his adaptation of the skin concept. Boasting a singed cloak, a fiery mask, horns, and complex red and silver armor, the costume is genuinely special. With the Reaper skin not even existing in-game, this final cosplay is a perfect example of just how dedicated the Overwatch community is.
