Emotes are one of many facets of Final Fantasy 14. Some players use them way more often than others. Like emotes in all things, they are a way to express yourself without having to type. Except in Final Fantasy 14, they are more fun and creative. They can make a character dance, hug another, or even pray for victory if players are stuck on a boss fight.

There are many emotes, but some are sought out and used more than others. Here are some of the best emotes in Final Fantasy 14 and how to get them.

Updated on January 8th, 2021 by Meg Pelliccio: With any game that allows players to customize their character to the smallest detail, especially MMOs, fans truly love to make their character their own. Sometimes even extends to roleplaying as them and staying in character.

One of the great things about Final Fantasy 14 is that players can add to their collection of character mannerisms by collecting emotes. Check out some of the very best emotes in the game and exactly how players can get them for their own characters just below.

Updated on August 18th, 2021 by Allison Stalberg: A population boom has occurred in Final Fantasy 14, causing many new players to appear in Eorzea’s three city-states. At the beginning of the game, there are some easy-to-get emotes. However, the best ones are those that are obtained through the Mogstation, beast tribe quests, and various side-quests.

These emotes are popularly used in dungeons, in Free Companies, and basically in any interaction between players. The best of the best are the ones that feel creative, funny, and/or useful. The new players are vying to get their hands on these.

20 Lali-ho

Final Fantasy 14 Lali-ho Emote

For players wanting to Lali-ho to their friends, they can get their own emote by completing one of the sidequests included as part of the Shadowbringers expansion content. Players need to travel to Kholusia and accept the quest "Learning to Lali-ho" from the NPC called Ronitt at (X:11.1, Y:11.8).

In order for the quest to appear, players must first have completed the main scenario quest called "Meet the Tholls", as well as the sidequest called "A Disagreeable Dwarf" given by the NPC Beott in Kholusia at (X:12.5, Y:9.3).

19 Squats

Summoner doing squats.

This emote has the Warrior of Light do a set of squats. As charming as it is, it is not so easy to obtain. It is a reward that comes with the Grand Company achievement "Dear Leader One." To get this achievement, the player must lead their personal Grand Company squadrons on 10 successful command missions.

Once 10 missions are done though, the player actually unlocks four emotes. Along with Squats, the player will also unlock Breath Control, Push-ups, and Sit-ups. Leading NPCs through dungeons is not as simple as it sounds, so this is a well-earned reward.

18 Spectacles Emote

Final Fantasy 14 Spectacles Emote

The rather awesome Spectacles Emote (as well as the Inspector's Eyeglasses gear) is given as a reward from the sidequest called "Letters from No One". This quest is part of the Scholasticate side quest chain, which can be started in The Pillars at (X:6.3, Y:9.4) by accepting the quest "Keeping the Ledger" from the NPC Mathye.

For this quest to appear, players must first have completed the level 56 Heavensward main scenario quest "He Who Would Not Be Denied".

17 Eat Bread

Viera eating bread.

While Warriors of Light can eat food to get buffs, there is also an emote that lets them visually eat bread (with no buffs though). It's an odd emote, but also quite popular.

The Eat Bread emote is obtained from The Firmament content in Heavensward. With 900 Skybuilder's Scripts, the player can trade for the "Ballroom Etiquette - Well Bread" manual. Once the manual is used, they will know the emote Eat Bread. The commands players can use to use the emote are "/breakfast" and "/bread."

16 Haurchefant Emote

Final Fantasy 14 Haurchefant Emote

Players are able to remember one of the most fan-favorite characters in style by representing with the Haurchefant Emote. This emote is the reward from the sidequest "The Burdens We Bear" that is given by the NPC Slowfix in Idyllshire at (X:7.6, Y:6.6). This quest chain might make players a little emotional, given the fact it references a character who died.

In order for this quest to appear, players must first have completed the Heavensward main scenario quest called "Heroes of the Hour". They must also have progressed far enough in the sidequest chain that begins with "The Paths We Walk" from the House Fortemps Manservant NPC in Ishgard (in House Fortemps).

15 Gratuity

Miqo'te throwing gold coins.

Gratuity is an emote that throws gold coins out in an act of revelry. It is quite fun, but requires the player to beat every single Beast Tribe quest in Stormblood. This includes the Namazu, Kojin, and Ananta. Each tribe needs to be at the level Bloodsworn.

The best way to get all Beast Tribes at Bloodsworn is to commit to doing quests for them daily. This can be combined with leveling up classes. Once all are Bloodsworn, a quest will begin called "What a Wonder-full World." The quest-giver is Kabuto in The Azim Steppe.

14 Most Gentlemanly Emote

The Most Gentlemanly emote is the reward from the sidequest "Her Last Vow", given by the NPC Julyan in Ul'dah at (X:12.1, Y:11.8). This quest is part of the Hildebrand quest chain, which can be started by accepting the quest "The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen" from the NPC Wymond in Ul'dah, at (X:9.9, Y:8.7).

To begin this quest chain, players must already have completed the main scenario quest called "The Ultimate Weapon". Additionally, this quest chain is rather lengthy and has several other notable rewards, including the Manderville Dance and Manderville Mambo emotes.

13 Throw Emote

Final Fantasy 14 Throw Emote

The Throw Emote is a great little action for players who want to pretend to have snowball fights with their friends. In order to get this emote, players need to start the sidequest called "Toss Fit Workout" given by the NPC Maucolyn in Coerthas Central Highlands at (X:25, Y:27.8).

The great thing about this emote is that if players are standing in a snowy area, their character will throw an actual snowball too. Luckily, there are no requirements for this quest, so players can unlock this emote as soon as they want.

12 Play Dead

Play dead is just as it sounds. Characters pretend to die and lays motionless on the ground as if they were killed in battle. It is good fun, especially when with friends in a dungeon. There is a number of emotes, such as this particular one, need to be bought with real-world money. They can be purchased from the Final Fantasy XIV Online store for seven dollars.

That is regrettably the only way to get the Play Dead emote, and it, unfortunately, isn't an account-wide item either, meaning players can only apply it to one of their characters. Square Enix regularly hold sales on the online store, so it may be worth waiting until this occurs.

11 Senor Sabotender

Miqo'te girl doing the Senor Sabotender emote.

The Manderville Gold Saucer's mascot, Senor Sabotender, as a signature dance that he does while walking around the casino. He does a little spin, with his Sabotender arms locked in typical Sabotender fashion. This emote mimics that.

Currently, players can only get this emote in one of two ways. It was available as a reward in The Make it Rain Campaign of 2019. Since that time has long passed, it can now be bought on the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store for about two dollars.

10 Dote

Dote is the blow kiss emote with a little something more. Players actually get to summon a heart and blow it at whoever you target. It's the perfect way for players to express their love to another character.

Like the Play Dead emote, this one can only be bought at the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store. However, it is cheaper at just two dollars. Don't worry though, there are plenty of others on this list that you do not have to pay real money for!

9 Manderville Mambo

If players haven't done the Manderville questlines, they're missing out on way more than just an emote. The quests are hilarious and have a ton of slapstick comedy mixed into a ridiculous, but interesting, plot.

The Manderville Mambo is a dance that players get from completing the level 70 Manderville sidequest. They'll get it at the same time they get the achievement reward, "Good Night, Sweet Hildy". Players can start the Hildebrand quest chain with the "The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen" quest, which can be accepted from Wymond in Ul'dah, at (X:9.9, Y:8.7).

8 Toast

Nothing says merriment and adventure more than a tankard and a toast. This emote allows your character to take out a tankard, toast, and take a swig. What is in the cup? Booze? Root beer? Doesn't matter!

This emote is only available on the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store and can be bought for seven dollars, much like the play dead one.

7 The Three Songbird Cheers

These three emotes are all very similar. They each have different colored light-up sticks with a different motion in which to wave them. They were released in 2018 for Little Lady's Day. Players around that time were probably lucky enough to get three cheers for free.

Those that missed the event can still buy each one for two dollars on the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store, or the whole set for five dollars.

6 Hum

The hum emote is a nice idle stance where a character just stands and happily hums to themselves. No, they don't make sound, but they do move as though they are thinking of a little beat in their head, which is absolutely adorable.

Hum is received after completion of the level 70 quest called "The Fire-bird Down Below". It is part of the Four Lords questline. This quest chain can be started by speaking to the NPC Soroban in The Ruby Sea area at (X:5.7, Y:15.8) and accepting the quest "An Auspicious Encounter".

5 Battle Stance

The battle stance emote completely changes depending on the character's class — in a way, it is a ton of emotes in one! While a lot of the emotes on this list are a bit sillier, battle stance is great for role-playing a stoic character who is preparing for a big fight.

The emote is received at level 60 after completing the post-Heavensward main scenario quest called "Causes and Costs".

4 Lean

Lean is another cool emote. It is also perfect for being away from your keyboard, as it is an idle animation. Players just put your back to a wall or object, and the emote lets them lean against it. Simple, but pleasing to the eye.

The only way to get lean is through the reconstruction of Ishgard. Players will need to craft a lot and collect 1,800 Skybuilders scripts in order to purchase the emote. It is learned through the Ballroom Etiquette - Winsome Wallflower item.

3 Black Ranger Pose

There are different ranger poses available, but it is the black ranger poses that everyone loves. Why? It looks like the character is dabbing! How hilarious is that? It is likely players have seen this pose a lot, but never the ones for the red or yellow ranger.

The black ranger pose is three dollars on the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store, the whole set of ranger poses for seven dollars and fifty cents. These emotes are not account-wide, so players will only be able to add them to one character on their account.

2 Charmed

Lalafell using the Charmed emote.

This emote can actually be obtained on the way to the Gratuity emote, because it is obtained from the Ananta Beast Tribe in Stormblood. It only costs five Ananta Dreamstaffs too. However, it will not be available from their store until the player reaches rank five with the tribe. Once rank five is obtained though, the player just has to pay the five Ananta Dreamstaffs for the manual "Ballroom Etiquette - Salacious Sentiments."

The emote is inspired from the Lakshmi fight, when the Warriors of Light fall into a love-struck trance at one part of the battle. With this emote, the player can now appear love-struck whenever they wish.

1 Diamond Dust

This is the crown jewel of emotes. Also known as the Iceheart emote, it encases the player in ice, then explodes, and the character gets to float for a bit. It is gorgeous and likely one of the rarest emotes out there.

This is because it only came with limited edition statues of the boss, Shiva. Those statues retail at about 150 dollars and they sell out fast. Obviously, this frustrated a lot of players. So for those who do have this emote, flaunt it!
