Pokemon GO players are now in the midst of a special celebration in honor of Pokemon originally discovered in the Unova region, after enjoying a special Kalos-focused event several weeks ago. These region-themed celebrations will apparently continue until Niantic finally arrives at the long-awaited Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto event.

Although the last region to be introduced to Pokemon GO was in fact Kalos, it seems that players will have to take a brief break from all the newer Pokemon to celebrate some Unovan favorites. Not to mention, Trainers have been reporting wild Shiny Snivy sightings, so the Unova Celebration event surely has much to offer.

As mentioned above, the Shiny version of Kalos Starter Snivy is now available in Pokemon GO, as of the Unova Celebration event. While the Grass-type Starter Pokemon's Shiny form is now officially catchable in the game, fans may be disappointed to find out that its other two Starter "siblings," Tepig and Oshawott, cannot be encountered as Shiny. This doesn't mean there aren't new Pokemon and bonuses to enjoy, but it does mean that players hoping to encounter a Shiny Oshawott will have to hold on to their hopes a bit longer.

Though Shiny Oshawott is unavailable, Pokemon Trainers still have all of the new(er) Kalos Pokemon within reach. These Pokemon, including Litleo and Bunnelby, are now able to be encountered in the wild and Raid Battles. That said, the Unova Celebration event does alter some of those spawns, so players may want to keep an eye out for Pokemon like the rare Ferroseed instead. Especially if in pursuit of Shiny Pokemon, players will want to prioritize Snivy, Roggenrola, and Ferroseed during this event, as all three are appearing more frequently, and available in their Shiny forms.

Given that Shiny Snivy has been released, players can certainly expect Shiny Oshawott and Tepig to be making their way into Pokemon GO at some point in the future. However, Niantic is rather notorious for taking its time with Shiny roll outs, so Pokemon Trainers will want to keep themselves occupied in the meantime. As part of the Unova Celebration, players have also been introduced to the game's first Collection Challenge. This inaugural one is centered around Pokemon from the Unova region, so it will be exceptionally easy to complete during the Unova Challenge, regardless of Shiny Starter Pokemon.

Players will need to locate Blitzle, all three Unovan Starters, Solosis, and even Lillipup, who was recently featured in its own Spotlight Hour. To complete the new Collection Challenge, players simply need to catch one of each of the featured Pokemon, all of which are Unovan in this case. Aside from providing some motivation to track down some Pokedex entries, the Challenge also promises players several in-game rewards, like Rare Candy.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
