Developed by Hopoo Games and published by Gearbox Publishing, roguelike third-person shooter title Risk of Rain 2 garnered the public's attention when it first went into Steam's Early Access. Being the sequel to the Hopoo's first Risk of Rain that was launched in 2013, the game seems to have recently hit a very impressive player milestone.

One of the best co-op games of the year, players were able to get an early experience of Risk of Rain 2 via Steam in 2019. Later on, the title was released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. After its full launch on Steam last August 2020, players were given access to new stages, content, and challenges, possibly contributing to the number of players the roguelike game was able to gather.

Posting a screenshot on Twitter, an account named Timur22 (@bogorad222) has revealed that Risk of Rain 2 has already passed 3 million players. He surmised this from the LinkedIn profile of Chris Faylor, one of Gearbox Publishing's brand managers. In the profile, Faylor outlined that he was part of the Risk of Rain 2 project, sharing that the title has already crossed the 3 million player mark.

Fans can assume that 3 million may be a conservative number. As Risk of Rain 2 continues to stay on its various platforms, the Hopoo team has already released updates, and plans to have more DLC expansions, to keep their active players engaged and on their toes.

The devs also have a very busy 2021 planned for their players. Sharing its 2021 roadmap on Twitter, the team is currently planning an anniversary update for this March 2021 and a paid expansion pack in Q4 2021. Players can look forward to a host of new content - new Risk of Rain 2 survivors, upgrades to current survivor skills, new stages & items, and even an alternate Final Boss.

Risk of Rain 2 is currently available for the PC, PS4, Switch & Xbox One.
