Genshin Impact Developer Launches Nova Desktop For Lumi Fans

Mihoyo, the team behind the hit online RPG Genshin Impact launched their very own virtual youtube star back in May 2020 and now they are aiming to bring Lumi to your mobile desktop with the launch of the Nova Desktop app.

Today Mihoyo announced that their self styled virtual dancer come vtube waifu named Lumi is getting their own desktop app, allowing Lumi to accompany her fans wherever they go via their mobile devices. Dues to arrive on app store on Dec 18, the Lumi Desktop app will give anybody interested in following the virtual actress live desktop wallpapers and short videos on their Android mobile device. Mihoyo has confirmed that this is also likely to include appearances in the future on other media formats, including live streams.

“Our slogan here at miHoYo is ‘Tech Otakus Save the World!’ We strive to use innovative and cutting edge technology to create high-quality content that is incredibly detailed,” said Forrest Liu, General President of miHoYo. “By continuously polishing the character Lumi and her supporting technology, we not only hope to achieve a comprehensive upgrade of miHoYo’s content creation for games, animation, and live streams, etc., but also hope to bring a complete set of technical solutions used by Lumi to more creators which would assist everyone in producing more high-quality content.”

Don’t underestimate this as simply an exp[eriment on Mihoyo’s part. The thirst for YouTubers and performers fronted by virtual avatars has blown up into a sub section of media known as Vtubers. Largely born out of anime fandom, even Twitch star Pokimane has adopted the idea and the tech Otaku at Mihoyo dipped their toe into the water when they launched the first Lumi video in May 2020. Now, it looks like they are getting ready to take another step in saving the world. You can check out what all the fuss is about this Lumi Desktop App over at the Lumi Youtube channel now or grab the app on the Google Play Store.
