A rare opportunity exists for Pokemon GO players over the next week or so as players gain access to a Special Research storyline that offers the chance to encounter a shiny Mythical Pokemon. That means that completionists will be out in full force working through this fairly simple Special Research to ensure they can add Shiny Celebi to their growing shiny dex.

The Special Research, Distracted by Something Shiny, is available to pick up as part of the Secrets of the Jungle event. The storyline puts a focus on iconic Team GO Rocket baddies Jessie and James, so players can definitely expect to battle against the duo before the Pokemon GO quest chain is complete.

Leading up to the battles with Jesse and James in Step 3 of the storyline, there aren't any very difficult challenges along the way. The toughest may come in the form of taking a snapshot of a Grass-type Pokemon, but even that should be fairly easy to orchestrate.

Step 1

Transfer 10 Pokémon → Ultra Balls x10

Catch 10 Grass-type Pokémon → Nuzleaf Encounter

Evolve 3 Grass-type Pokémon → Cottonee Encounter

Rewards: Diglett (Kanto) Encounter, 500 Stardust, 1000 XP

Step 2

Play with your Buddy 10 times → Poffin x1

Take a snapshot of a Grass-type Pokémon → Combee Encounter

Give your Buddy 10 treats → Cherubi Encounter

Rewards: Pinsir Encounter, 500 Stardust, 1000 XP

Step 3

Defeat Jessie or James 4 times → Max Revive x5

Make 5 Great Curveball Throws → Hoothoot Encounter

Hatch 3 Eggs → Whimsicott EncounterRewards: Vibrava Encounter, 500 Stardust, 1000 XP

Step 4 (Final)

Claim Reward! → 500 XP

Claim Reward! → Oddish

Claim Reward! → Foongus

Rewards: Shiny Celebi Encounter, 500 Stardust, 1000 XP

The key to completing the storyline early will definitely be getting those four Jessie or James encounters in the very near future. The duo are scheduled to have increased sightings until Christmas, so ideally players should arrive at Step 3 quickly and then defeat the duo four times before December 25 arrives. This isn't a timed research, so it's fine to miss that goal, but completion will have to wait until the duo resurfaces if that's the case.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
