The recent release of Destiny 2: Beyond Light has had its ups and downs, with some exciting new strikes and raids, but it's also been hampered by a number of bugs and exploits that have made progress difficult for some players. A recent issue is blocking Destiny 2 players from playing the raid and other end game content on PS4, even if they have enough available friends to jump into these activities with.
It would appear that this latest issue has arrived alongside the recent next-gen update that optimized Destiny 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S systems. However, Bungie has announced that a fix is coming to make raiding possible on PS4 again, but it might be some time before players are able to easily partner up with their friends again.
The exact details of this recent issue, brought on by Destiny 2's recent update, involve the friends lists of players on PS4, which, due to an error, is leaving players unable to view their online friends in their roster. There are currently workarounds, such as using the companion app or attempting to join directly through the PSN in order to bypass the in-game system. However, some players are reporting that these additional methods are also not working, even when using exterior Looking For Group websites and applications alongside the PS4's own connectivity features.
Fortunately, the coming hotfix on December 14th will be addressing this issue, although it does still leave some PS4 players out of end game content for almost a whole week. On top of the raid, this also means that some of Destiny 2's exotic weapon quests are unavailable to players on the platform, as well as the prospect of taking teams into competitive activities within the Crucible. As a result, some players are voicing their frustration with this latest bug, as the ripple effects of losing a week's worth of progress farming powerful rewards could set player's progress back through the season.
Matchmaking has been a source of debate among players for quite some time, with smaller groups clashing with Bungie about making it easier for groups to jump into end-game content without having to join a larger clan. However, this recent issue goes a step further than a simple lack of Looking For Group features or six-party requirements, instead keeping all players on the platform from accessing this type of content. Even Destiny 2's Iron Banner event will see the ill effects of the broken fireteam system, as many players on PS4 will be forced to solo-queue for an event that lends itself to teams.
