Following the underwhelming announcement of the Xbox One back in 2013, Sony's PS4 started life with a comfortable sales lead over Microsoft's console and ensured that they maintained it with a plethora of exclusive titles. The criticisms of Sony are beginning to pick up pace because of this, but the company doesn't appear to be phased as the PS5 has launched with numerous exclusive titles, including the latest Spider-Man game, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Thankfully for PC users, the continuous success and rise of the gaming industry mean there are always going to be alternative options if a particular game isn't available. Furthermore, the ever-tightening relationship between Xbox and PC looks set to continue adding excellent IP's to the various PC gaming stores.

Though Miles Morales' impressive review scores may frustrate non-PlayStation gamers, there are more than enough options available to PC gamers today that offer a similar, or even better action-adventure experience.

10 Batman: Arkham City

Batman in Arkham City

Batman Arkham Asylum, much like the Dark Knight film that was released around the same time, surpassed even the most optimistic fan's expectations. Arkham City released two years later, offering more free-roaming and a far larger open-world map.

One of the many similarities between the Marvel and DC games is the combat system. The Arkham series revolutionized hand-to-hand combat with their innovative mechanics that made fighting multiple enemies simplistic yet fast-paced, solving gaming's reoccurring issue of enemies unrealistically taking turns to fight the player. Many games have replicated this, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

9 Crackdown 3

The third entry in the Crackdown series was released nearly 10 years after the second and was the first to come to PC. Despite the time difference and change in the development team, much of the core gameplay was the same as in the previous entries.

Crackdown 3 is undoubtedly the weakest game on this list, but if you're able to get it at a low price, the over-the-top action can provide more than enough enjoyment to make it worthwhile.

8 Assassin's Creed Syndicate

The Assassin's Creed series' impressive consistency has made it one of the most recognizable names in the crowded third-person action-adventure genre.

The series features many similarities to the latest Spider-Man game, such as the combat and open-world exploration. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is mentioned in particular, as the rope launcher lets the game's protagonists Evie and Jacob channel their inner Spider-Man and traverse buildings at high speed.

7 Lego: Marvel Superheroes

Spider-Man in Lego: Marvel Superheroes

This list wouldn't be complete without featuring the web-slinger himself. However, multiple Spidey games like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows are becoming increasingly difficult to play on Windows, and therefore would feel out of place on a list about accessibility for PC gamers. So, the unorthodox choice of Lego: Marvel Superheroes takes the cake.

Anyone who's played a Lego game before will know what to expect with Marvel Superheroes, and as is commonplace in modern Lego games, it lets players control a range of iconic characters. The Hulk, Thor, and of course Spider-Man, are all playable.

6 Prototype

Radical Entertainment and Activision teamed up in 2009 to release Prototype. The game puts players in the shoes of Alex Mercer, a man with no memory of his past, who wakes up with multiple powers.

Alex's powers include speed, strength, high stamina, and the ability to shapeshift, which helps differentiate the game from the other third-person action-adventure titles on this list.

5 Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

An open-world adventure set in Tolkien's Middle-Earth is something that fans of The Lord of the Rings had been crying out for. The money-making idea finally came to fruition in 2014, when Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment teamed up with Monolith Productions, a team best known for horror games like F.E.A.R. and Condemned.

The game didn't disappoint and won Game of the Year awards from Gamespot and Giant Bomb.

4 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red shot themselves into the forefront of the gaming industry in 2015 with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game showed off the limitations of the recently released PS4 and Xbox One and is still one of the most impressive looking games on high-end PC's.

The Witcher 3's strength comes from its incredible open-world, with intricate side-quests and numerous exciting places to discover that will make even the most die-hard Spidey fans forget the name Miles Morales.

3 Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn PC

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of PC gamer's few beacons of hope when it comes to PC ports of PlayStation games, as one of the PlayStation 4's hallmark games came to the system in August 2020.

The PS4 iteration of the game narrowly missed out on hitting the elusive 90 mark on Metacritic with a score of 89, likely due to Destructoid's lackluster 7.5/10 grading.

2 Just Cause 4

With every release, Avalanche Studios leans further into its identity as being the third-person shooter with the most extreme action, and Just Cause 4 is no different.

The fourth iteration of the adventure series fully embraced its non-sensical elements. Lightning and Wind guns were added, as well as extreme weather conditions like tornados, which make web-slinging in Spider-Man feel like a stroll in the park by comparison.

1 Sunset Overdrive

Explosive gunfight in Sunset Overdrive

Sunset Override is an obvious choice for this list as it was developed by Insomniac Games, the same company that made Miles Morales.

Although the futuristic setting and explosive gun firing action may make it seem like a far cry from Spider-Man, the game's open-world which is bursting with colors and can be quickly traversed with grind rails, clearly influenced Miles Morales' predecessor Marvel's Spider-Man.
