Since it launched back in September, it has been a difficult road for Marvel's Avengers. Following the initial launch surge, the game has seen a sizable portion of its player base depart, leaving some platforms struggling to matchmake players together for its online missions. While Crystal Dynamics has been releasing updates as fast as it can to address the game's numerous issues and bugs, the promised DLC updates have quickly fallen behind schedule due in large part to the California forest fires that ravaged the state this year in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing everyone to work remotely.

Hope was restored a few weeks ago when it was revealed that the first DLC character for Marvel's Avengers, Kate Bishop, was finally being added to the game on December 8 alongside more content like the Super-Adaptoid boss fight and AIM Cloning Lab. With Square Enix focused on saving the game through these DLC updates, this appeared to be a big step forward for the loot-based game. Unfortunately, it appears that at least some of the content won't be making the cut next week.

In a Tweet to fans, the official Marvel's Avengers account gave an update to the upcoming DLC. While Kate Bishop's story operation is on track and will be arriving on December 8, it was also confirmed that the Omega-Level version of the Super Adaptoid mission and the AIM Cloning Labs need more time for polish and have been delayed. For now, players will have to settle on battling the Super Adaptoid through Kate's story.

No dates were provided as to when the other DLC content will be ready, though the team is aiming to have everything added as soon as possible. Naturally, fan response to the news has been mixed at best, with many tired of all the delays and missed opportunities. Others added support for the studio and reminding folks to be patient as the studio deals with external forces that it can't control.

The delayed content is certainly an unfortunate setback especially during a week that also features the release of the highly anticipated game, Cyberpunk 2077. The team still has plenty of work to do as the game looks to recover, though the road looks to be long and difficult considering that reports have indicated that it has yet to make back its development costs. The game's launch also caused publisher Square Enix to post a major Financial Loss during the last quarterly financial report. The foundation of the game is there, hopefully with an influx of new content the game can turn itself around like some other loot-based games have done in the past.

Marvel's Avengers is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions currently in development.
