With the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars earlier this fall, a lot of younger Mario fans have had the chance to try out the 2002 GameCube classic Super Mario Sunshine for the first time. Unfortunately, as a new mod reminds, it also means that the Switch re-release has brought back one of the things people hate about Mario Sunshine the most: the chucksters.

On paper, the random members of Isle Delfino’s Pianta people who chuck Mario into the air whenever players talk to them hardly seem like anything more than a wacky addition. But the chucksters have become infamous for the way they’re incorporated into the game’s platforming. Specifically, one of the all-time worst Mario levels is all about trying to get chucksters to hurl Mario across large bottomless pits towards increasingly-smaller platforms, something that’s near-impossible to do with any sense of precision.

Tapping into the trauma many players got from the many botched throws, Twitter user chet_rippo showed off a mod of theirs this weekend that makes a slight change to Super Mario Sunshine, that being that all of the game’s NPCs are now chucksters. This is illustrated perfectly with a chaotic video clip showing a random Pianta hurling Mario right into a large patch of fiery sludge.

Taking things a lot further, they shared another clip showing Toadsworth, Princess Peach’s steward, seemingly throwing Mario as high up as the game allows, providing viewers with a view of Isle Delfino in its entirety.

Since the games included in Super Mario 3D All-Stars are emulations of their original releases, it means newcomers to Sunshine will have to deal with the chucksters sooner or later, just as players before them had to back in the GameCube days. But if chet_rippo’s mod proves anything, it’s that it could be a whole lot worse.

Super Mario Sunshine is available for the Switch as part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
